Its pretty Ironic that they were able to see a Lap Time of 1:26.16 on the Ignition Episode and 1:27.90 on the H2H for the ZL1....thats a huge difference of 1.74 Seconds....perhaps they ran the ZL1 slower in order to bring it close the the 350R Lap Time and declare it as the winner?....just a thought...

All this made for the internet crap sure does stir folks up. Haven't seen it and don't plan to pay to see it. Clearly the Mustang has 2 fatal strikes against it, supply and actual price to buy. Those are fatal strikes and only a bonehead would pay the asking price for them.

So if you are a bonehead go buy a 350R. If you are not buy the ZL1-1LE and a 2SS for a daily driver for the same price. Or if you like a ZL1-1LE and a GT Mustang.

I do think the 350R is cool and actually went looking for one late last year. I found out the price and bought a new 16 Z06 instead. Ford is in the business of emulating Ferrari. Make a cool car but don't make many of them and price them about 3 times what they should be worth. Take the Ford GT. Simply stupid pricing for a good car.

I likely will pick up a ZL1 but won't do it until supply is up and pricing is down. Simply no reason to be stupid with your money. If you are, you won't soon have any money.

I disagree with this in a way. I agree that you can't really knock it till you've tried it. However, when it comes to cars of this caliper and price, chances are you're not gonna have that opportunity. Which is why we need unbiased testing to inform us. Coyote (11-14) Mustang GT to 5th Gen Camaro SS and sure you can def go between the two. Test drives, own one or the other for a couple years. A lot of us have done that. I've owned a 15 GT AND a 10 SS at the same time. But when you're talking about $50K and up cars, it isn't likely. You're not gonna test drive a GT350 (R or non-R) unless you've already signed for it. Same with a ZL1. Heck most of these Ford dealerships won't even let you sit in a GT350. I saw one dealership where they had a rope around the car. And it wasn't even the R version. But when we have testing, that is how we can make these decisions. After owning my 15 GT and dealing with the horrible drone from an aftermarket exhaust even with the stock manifolds and cats (my 10 SS with catless headers and full 3 inch exhaust had virtually no drone BTW), and along with the reports and how the GT350only does a 12.2 in the quarter...and knowing how I want a car that can corner like the GT350R and blast off an 11 second bone stock, I didn't have to drive a GT350R to know I wouldn't be happy with one. I would have been miserable. So not in all cases do you need to actually own the car to get the experience.

You can actually enjoy it as a luxury car and it has a lot less scratchy plastic anymore. You can have all of the new tech parts, PDR, backup camera, big screen, killer Bose system, Nav, and like Randy, "steer with 2 fingers" and hang with "the track car"! I am damn proud of the ZL1!
ZL1 is the best because it either hangs with or beats the best (in it's league) at just about any category. It'll roll-on as fast as the Z06 and Hellcat or slightly slower (depending on trans in both cars). It'll out-corner the GT350R and (obviously) the Hellcat. It'll destroy the GT350R from a dig or roll in a straight line. It has back seats (unlike the Z06). It has tons of creature comforts (unlike the GT350R). It is cheaper than the Z06, Hellcat, and priced similarly to the GT350R. It is a better DD than all of them. No overheating issues like the Z06. I mean all around, outside of subjectivity, the ZL1 really is the best sports car right now.

It's also curious that they chose not to run a timed 1/4 mile. Instead, they decided to see what speed each car could reach in a 1/2 mile. Total omission of an area of humiliation since the ZL1 would have beaten the R by a full second.

Edit - and no measure of braking distance...at all. Another area the ZL1 dominance.?.

You are getting an R for MSRP? Really, what do you have to do to get that price?

To me it looked like he was sand bagging the ZL1 a little bit, especially in the corners. That may be because there's too much torque or because the car is a little heavier. But for whatever reason he just didn't appear to be driving the ZL1 as hard IMHO.

Yeah definitely appeared to be far from the limit of the car. And I'm no professional driver but I feel like that about a lot of Randys laps in street cars. If you watch Chevys Nurburgring video, you can see the ZL1 at the limit, tires squealing, edge of tire grip etc.

Yup! I watched the Nurburgring video. It was fascinating. And they really pushed that car to it's limit. I wonder how much prep they had and how many times they ran it before they were able to get that kind of time. If they had a few runs and some time to go over the data and Randy didn't then that might explain why and how they could push it to the limit while RP couldn't. I'm not sure. But as a pro driver who no doubt ran WS many times before and knew ahead of time he would be running there I don't see how he couldn't push the ZL1 a little harder. Maybe he could have pushed both car harder for that matter.

I started looking for one a few months ago or so. If I didn't t find one for a reasonable price, I wasn't going to fret over it, I still have my 350 Track Pack. Not all dealers charge ADM, I just happened to get lucky reaching out to a dealer with allocation who wasn't going to charge over MSRP. I found the car through Ford's website inventory locator. The car wasn't advertised at the dealer yet. Equal parts persistency and luck is how I got the R. Every other dealer I spoke with wanted anywhere from $10K-$30K+ ADM. I enjoy the hunt looking for something people say you can't get at sticker without having a personal relationship with the dealer owner.

Wow. That's a great find.
I don't know if you're a collector or independently wealthy but how many times can you buy a car with potential equity in it. If you could sell for average market price you'd clear what 50k? I don't know if I would risk driving around in that kind of profit.

A10 would have not been a fair Comparison. I would have laughed if Chevy brought a A10 to the Race.

Thanks!
I do pretty well for myself. I don't plan on keeping my track pack as that car will be used as trade for the R. I'm a car enthusiast first hand and no one gets an R fall into their lap at sticker and does nothing about it. It will be used as a toy like my current 350. The R will be a car that I will keep forever and will be the corner stone of a future collection.
