Young people have a lot less interest in cars and driving in general. With all of the social media and ways to get a hold of your friends, not have s set of wheels is not as much of a hinderance as it used to be. I remember the days of having no idea where your friends were and just hoping in the car and driving from house to house until you finally all found each other. Plus, cars are no where near as easy to work on as they used to be so a lot of younger people didn't grow up wrenching with their dad so have no clue or interest in such things.

A gross lack of jobs for the country. At 18 I bought my used 58 Chevy, at 20 I bought a new 66 Chevelle SS. We had jobs to go to. Wish our young had that same opportunity today. Cars are expensive as is insurance, prohibitively so and that's a shame. That said, at our local track it is rare that there aren't hundreds of spectators but they mostly come to see the Imports. I am happy when the spectators fill the stands, it helps the future of Motorsports.

Very true. The price of these cars aren't exactly cheap (especially the hi-perf models) nor are they practical which is they mostly want for transportation. They do appreciate them, but more from a "That's a nice car, but I'll never own one" point of view.

Not because they can't, because that's not what they are interested in. You said it yourself, all the cars have their own upsides. Enjoy it. There is a car out there for everyone.
A buddy of mine owns the Hellcat which does 6.90's in the 1/8th mile. It is a very nice car.
I have another buddy who owns an SRT8 Challenger, it is also a very nice car.
Chevy does fairly well with their COPO Camaro so to say they aren't going for king of the dragstrip is off the mark a little.
I'd consider the ZL1 as I only have 4 payments left on my 11 Silverado.
I also have a Chevelle (pretty nice car) and it's fairly quick at the track given it's 3800lb race weight. So there would almost be enough incentive for me to trade in my Chevelle but not quite yet.

Thanks.
The whole front fascia looks different to me. The grill hexagon is larger and inverted on the ZL1 and the ducts on either side are different too. I believe I read somewhere that the front wheel wells are just a little wider too. The ZL1 looks much nicer IMO.

I think Zl1 will run easy 11.20's with street tires and 10.60's with a set of drag radials and the A10. We've already had 2 bone stock SS' run in the high 11's stock and 1 run 10.60's with DR's and 150 shot of NOS. I think straight line it will handle the Hellcat and blow it away on a road course even though it 60 hp short of the HC. The HC's are bad boys, but the Zl1 is gonna take it down.

Yeah,....you're right. It does look a lot different. I think they both look good.

I looks like the fascia itself creates the wider wheel well. Looks as if it pushes out further at the headlight and then goes down horizontal whereas the SS pulls in slightly.

I have a co-worker with a hellcat as well and it's sweet.
The copo isn't a road car, but it's certainly nice. It's made to fit within a particular racing class. The fact remains Chevy isn't going for all out drag perfomance with the ZL1. Dodge is really the only one doing that ( in a street car).

I kid...I kid (mostly). It does bear a passing resemblance to the Charger Hellcat's front end. If you take the hood from the 12-14 SRT8, the front end treatment from the 2016 HellCharger and tweak it a little...it's similar to the Camaro.

The Charger coupe is called the Challenger...

Don't count out the Mustangs, they run pretty hard and are the number one crash car at the track. They seem to love K rails.

Maybe it's just me but from the two pics above (1LE and ZL1) the front end of the Z almost makes the SS seem dated already. I can see how some may call the ZL1 cartoonish but I feel it's a severely menacing looking car and will easily be recognizable whereas the SS "blends" too much with the rest of the Camaro models so I'm glad GM went with a much more aggressive/different look.

I rarely see any 5th gen ZL1s so I will most likely be getting a 2017 unless I convince myself I want a "base" C7 with a few options since they'll most likely be close enough in price to consider either. I don't like having a car that is so overly common, even though the "lowly" SS is an amazing car. As much as I love the SS (I drove one twice) I just don't get the "this is the one" feeling.

I feel my only gripe with this car is the red/black combo of the interior. I'm just not a fan of red and black with anything so it would be nice to have the option of different stitching but this is a very minor gripe since I feel this car is damn near perfect. I should start seeing test vehicles on the streets here soon since I don't live all that far from Milford. It'll be a long year since I probably won't order until this time next year. By the time they're available I don't want to just park it in my garage for the winter but it should be worth the wait.

Anyway, those are my thoughts on this beast. What a time we live in. I'm very curious to see what Ford will come up with for their GT500 but I prefer the Camaro styling so far.
