First, for people with chattering or popping differentials, it's possible you have oil with no friction modifier. This will cause such loud noises, particularly in reverse, that it will sound like you hit something. I had use of a Jeep with this problem for a week once. Not pleasant.

And second, it's hard to comment on written descriptions of groaning diffs, because who knows how loud, right?

Third, a slight groan on tight turns, when the diff is cold, is not a problem. Mine has 55,000 miles, and the slight groan when cold has never developed into anything worse. I did get the oil changed at 30,000, and the sound changed, but didn't go away. Shortly it was back to the original level, but has not been a problem.

If you read 90% of the thread here you would understand (This is a BIG problem). It is loud and obnoxious every day for many of us here. Also there are videos here and on other threads that the noise clearly is similar to what most all of us are all dealing with. If this crap is normal then no one would be bitchin every day on it.

Not to mention, many have had the oil changed and made sure it had the friction modifier. And new differentials installed.

The 2015 SS I had before the current 2016 had no issue whatsoever. Different diffs too. New engines, new transmissions, new diffs, new everything. It's like comparing apples to oranges. However, when compared to the vettes (same engines and so on) the issues are the same and have been problematic. I'm not waiting for the new redefined 60k mile warranty to expire before it's fixed.

My 2010 2ss had only 1 problem, oil pump going out at 56k miles. My 2016 2ss goes in Tuesday for an "evaluation". Fingers crossed! And the groan has become louder within 200 miles. Service writer told me this was an issue with 2014 and up corvettes, but he hadn't seen any camaros with the same issue. But I live in God's waiting room, southwest Florida, more vettes are sold down here than camaros. Just a little humor for an annoying issue.

Sign me up for the "groan". 16' 2SS, A8, 10k miles. Not bad but it is damn sure noticeable. Just started a couple days ago.

Off to the dealer next week.

So, I've spoken to some senior advisers at GM headquarters and they informed me that the dealership has done everything correctly because the only TSB out there on this issue is to drain and replace the rear diff fluid. This did NOT fix the issue for me and I told them that every time i hear the noise that's my rear diff clutches wearing out. I told them it's not okay to tell us to just drive on it because they will eventually fail, and it's a long term thing so it could be after the warranty is up and then it's my dime.

Unfortunately no progress, so I am not sure what it will take to get someone in GM to go out and find a root cause for the issue and deploy a real solution for all of us with this issue since the TSB they have does not solve the problem.

I've had fluid flushes, 1st replacement diff lasted about 1,500 miles and then made noise. More fluid flushes with noise still there on replacement diff, 2nd replacement diff completed 400 miles ago and unit not driveable due to a reduced braking issue. It's been at the dealership for weeks now since I'm not picking it up until it's repaired. GM needs to step up before they lose a loyal customer.

Amazing how 2 dealers by me REFUSE to try the fluid change, and tell me it's normal. It progressively gets worse with time. Last gm for me. Shame they wont fix an obvious defect. Glad I leased. I will beat the piss out of this thing. It will be limping back in at the end of lease.

I think the article does a good job of explaining the why: Our source within Chevrolet said this on the matter: “On early 2016 [Camaro] builds that have limited-slip differentials, this was a known issue. The ring and pinion gears had too much gear-marking compound [used to evaluate/adjust pinion depth] applied by the diff supplier, which [in turn] contaminated the fluid. Doing a fluid flush fixes the issue.

At the same time it's fair and notes the following: Some folks in the forums (Camaro 6) reported that after the differential oil replacement and several walking-speed figure eights with steering at full lock (which sounds like a reasonable idea to help circulate the new oil), this was a permanent fix, some said it didn’t change a thing, and still others reported that the groan came back after a period of time and so repeated the process with various degrees of success. It seems odd that it’s so hit or miss, which might explain why some forum contributors are having difficulty convincing their local Chevrolet service writers to look up the service document and perform the oil replacement.

As annoying as it may be to some, (sorry, I don't have it at this time) it doesn't sound as if it's anything that is going to damage the car.

Yeah, that's the attitude to take.
