My dealer spoke to someone at GM who, after some time, stated the VIN of my car appeared on a list generated by an audit on 3/2. The audit prompted by the vehicle thefts at the LGR plant on 3/1.

The "laid eyes on" term is my experience that you have to physically see a vehicle in order to record the VIN.

Good news, I hope. Per an online chat with Chevy Customer Assistance this am my car has been released from Bayed status to awaiting shipping. Of course, for any more information I was told to call my dealer, who is still trying to confirm what CCA told me.

If anyone has answers.. So my car was built 2/22 set to ship 3/9, the day of shipment My car got delayed but two other Camaros showed to up at my dealership. Checked my status and it was changed to 3800 and on hold, than got bayed and still sitting as bayed. Status changed Saturday told by Chevrolet to “quality Control”. Not sure if that’s a good thing and possibly the last step before shipment or it’s bad news? Has anyone had this happen? Or any idea on what it means?
Car is currently located (LG) at GEOFence #1. Bayed days: 40+ days

My sale person contacted me today to give me an update of my bayed 2022 SS 1LE. They are saying that the ETA is 04/29/22. I placed my order on Dec 1, 2021. Hope he's right.

Each time my car gets moved I get an email notification from onstar. Once your car gets “bayed” status you can use jack coopers tracking http://k0jdd.netlogger.org/VehicleStatus.php with vin. I’m not sure which is better yet this site or the Chevy app, it looks like mine made onto a train so far two days ago still awaiting hook up for shipping. Not sitting in the lot anymore. The attached image is from the Chevy app location.

How do you get the onstar tracking? My dealer keeps saying they can’t let me “purchase” the car until it arrives on there lot. But it seems everyone else is buying it early now.

Yes, i have already purchased the car on 2/26/22, when the dealer receives the title, they can sell the car before hand. But this is the 4th vehicle I have purchased from the same salesman and dealership, so maybe got some inside favoritism goin on?

Well I'm about a week off from sending in my first car note payment and I have yet to "lay eyes" on My vehicle. Is it that serious that I'm paying a note on a vehicle that I don't even have? Times are crazy

I've read of a handful of people that finalize their sale as soon as they can to activate OnStar, and if it works for them so be it. However, you give up all "power" in the negotiation when the car actually arrives. My car for example showed up with clear coat defects on several panels. I hadn't signed, so I had leverage to convince the dealer to clean it up, buff the defects, and ensure it met my expectations. They may have done that if I had already signed too, but better safe then sorry in my book.

To think of a worst case scenario, beyond making payments on a loan for a car you have yet to see, what if the car you finalized the sale of was one of those stolen from LGR and was then involved in a wreck, property damage, or some other issue that left you with potential liability?

Again, if it works for you, so be it. But it seems risky in my opinion.

After doing the research that continued to show similarly optioned cars built in the same time frame as mine were in fact making it through the Bayed phase and into the shipping phase while mine remained stuck, I have decided to get my deposit back and buy an existing car out of state and have it shipped to me. I had to go with my second favorite color, Riverside Blue Metallic, but otherwise the same car, just actually sitting on a showroom floor.

The most galling thing was my original dealer continuing to tell me my car was on hold for part shortages while at the same time trying to sell me an identical car he had received (except it was silver) that was built two weeks later and spent less than two weeks Bayed.
