And once you have created the habit of a less-than-light-footed departure from the line, it crosses over cleanly to all of the other manual cars as well.

For reference, the same transmission is used on the ZL1 and it DOES have a gas guzzler tax.
This is not really accurate. Unless I was playing I never “goosed” it off the line in any car I’ve ever driven, all of which had no more than half the horsepower of a regular SS. You can accelerate smoothly without giving any manual extra gas.

I’ve driven enough Tremec-equipped cars to know the skip shift engages a lot more than I’d like in regular, traffic-filled, daily driving.

Yes the ZL1 gets the GGT but that’s due to the extra 200 hp. Just like the 4th Gen SS 350 got GGT but the base Z28 350 did not.

Been awhile since I drove a manual with skip shift but rarely got “gated” by simply doing the following. When pulling down from first casually flip the shift across the neutral to the right then back left and down to second. As mentioned you can rev to 3,000 RPM but if are just driving casually you can use my technique to rarely get forced to 4th

Surprisingly it came naturally. Never real thought about it just pull down a flip right then pull over and down to second. If you are driving “casually” it works.

Of course if you can program it out, no big deal other than warranty.

I usually drive to where it doesn't come on but once in a while it gets me. I just go to 3rd with no problem.

Again, not following this... If speed through the gears "matters", you're pushing the car hard enough that CAGS will not engage. No pause required.

Exactly what I said … I thought. You and I understand how it works; my point was someone pausing between the gears in neutral to “fool” the CAGS isn’t extracting the most fun or maximum performance from the car. That’s all. Why own a car like this if you’re going to granny shift it, instead of pushing hard enough so the CAGS will not engage?

Because 99% of your driving is not done at Talledaga Motor Speedway. It's in your city on the way to and from work, to the grocery store, to your parents house. Where You encounter traffic and speed limits. Heck it's be great to wind it out through every gear up to redline all the time, but unless you want to eat the backside of the car in front of you, you're gonna have to granny shift especially 1st to 2nd.

So, because in that scenario the CAGS will engage pretty much all the time, simply get the bypass harness.

You don't have to be ripping it to skip CAGS. Just take 1st gear to 20mph. It only activates up until 19mph and when throttle is less than 33%. And if you are granny shifting so hard that you DO get CAGS, why not just go to 3rd or 4th? You are admittedly already driving slow.

Hitting 20 mph to avoid CAGS = Talladega? Seriously?
20 mph does not even exceed school zone speed limits!

Even in very heavy traffic, I NEVER even see the warning let alone get locked out. Sorry, if 20 mph in 1st is a hardship, perhaps it's the wrong car for you.

This topic (for the hundredth time) never ceases to make me laugh......

The CAGS can definitely be a PITA. Mostly when making left hand turns behind slow moving drivers. I eventually did install the skip shift eliminator in my '00 Z28 and it was nice to not have to deal with the annoyance. I'll probably do it with this one as well at some point as well.
