I guess I need to follow up with him about the copper free brakes again before he submits the order. He is wasn't able to place the order today since he currently doesn't have an allocation.

I also ordered mine with the copper free, I'm in PA. I got a friend in Michigan too that ordered them with his. Alpha1BC, He might be the same person, haha.

When we did mine earlier in November, we used the Quick Order system as the normal order system wanted to kick it out. A big thanks to GearheadSS for the info on that!

You’ll are spot on. I asked about the difference from a guy who works on the brakes team for GM.

The BCD are 398mm front rotor, new bespoke caliper, zl1 rear calipers, new rear rotor. New pads. He got them on his 1SS 1LE.

i wish I knew about them i would’ve got them but you really can’t tell the difference at face value unless parked side by side. Great bang for buck tho!

Do you guys have any additional info you can share on this? I’m trying to order an SS 1LE with the BCD package here in Michigan and my dealer says the system is spitting it back out. We tried 1SS, 2SS, both with and without 1LE… no dice. Trying to figure out what to try next.

Why is copper free something to be desired? I get the environmental impact of brake dust, but this comes at the cost of lower pad lining friction. If I were ordering today I’d skip this option. What appeal do you guys see?

California banned Camaro's with the copper brake pads. Other states may follow the trend.

For 500.00 you could be one of very few folks that have a significant line built upgrade to your car if they discontinue the option.

What makes the option interesting is GM only developed one set of brakes for V8 cars to meet the copper free spec - one that could keep up with the ZLE. The copper free brake package has 15.6” rotors (possibly 15.8”?) and CT5V Blackwing calipers, making it a substantial upgrade on the SS cars. I figure the aftermarket will start providing higher performance pads for them too.

The copper free brakes on an SS 1LE are a 398mm rotor and bigger caliper. Beyond the copper free pads, those two parts are an upgrade vs the normal bakes on the SS 1LE. And for only $500 more.

And to answer mRahmani's question,

The dealer will have to use the Quick Order system. The normal order system causes it to reject it.

My dealer used the Quick Order and it worked. My BCD SS 1LE has been built and should be here by the end of the month.

The 'copper free' part is the pad. If you swap to a Hawk or other aftermarket pad, you have all the benefit of a larger rotor and caliper.

You get the larger rotors and the ZL1 calipers. I took delivery of my 1LE here in CA in Nov. love the brakes and the larger rotors!
