I've found CARMAX to be a PITA. You have to wait a long time while they inspect your car. I've also found offers to be WAY lower than they used to be several years ago.

If you're trading in at CA, HI, VA, or WY and live out of state and your state has the trade tax credit you'll be fine.

Yeah i would definitely factor in sales tax credit. It’s 10% herein WA so if they offered you 2k less you would still be better trading it in here.
