the corvette just leaches sales from the camaro line. It needs to either enter supercar price territory or be absorbed into the camaro lineup.

Mustang benefits from having just the mustang from the bottom all the way to the top, then they do their Ford GT supercar. Chevy splits sales and thus increases costs with their setup. Not a winning formula in an environment that is highly toxic to anything that's not an SUV with at least 4 doors.

I agree.. a lot of guessing right now but fun to speculate

I am a believer that it will not be much more than the current model and I've been saying that for a long time. I don't know for sure though.

My guess is that it will be somewhere between $65k and $70k. A base A8 C7 is $58,995 right now. $10k more than that would not be a shock to me.
I was at the Corvette website and it showed a base price of $55,000.00. Did I miss something or were you adding doc fees?
I hope they do try to keep it around a $5,000.00 price increase at most. I think that was one of the big downfalls of the Viper was it got beyond the price range of the middle class buyer.

Base price is $55,900 plus $1,095 for destination. So $56,995 for the M7. Add in the A8 and you're at $58,990.

I hope not Corvette has always been the american dream sports car, why price it out of range of the normal consumer?

Plus that works both ways.. I was a Corvette owner that wanted something different after 20 years buying Corvettes.

They don't increase costs with this setup, in fact, they reduce costs. The Camaro is a parts-bin car. Hardly anything beside the sheetmetal is developed for the Camaro. The chassis was developed for the Cadillacs, the engine came from the Corvette, the MRC was in both Cadillac and Corvette first. Dual mode exhaust, same thing. E-diff, same thing.

I can go on and on.

The Camaro gets these things a few years later, after they debut in the halo cars, after the initial sales spike start tapering off. The Camaro sales are just icing on the cake, and squeezes a few more dollars, helping to offset the development costs of the halo cars.

It is a MUCH more profitable scenario than if the Camro rode on it's own unique chassis like the Mustang.

In fact, the next Mustang chassis is now rumored to be shared with some Ford SUV's. The CD6 will have the Mustang, Explorer, and Lincon Aviator. I am sure they are doing it to offset development costs.

But I would rather borrow a chassis that was designed (like the Alpha) to compete with an M3/4 and M5, than one designed for an Explorer...

What I had read some time ago from Chevy is that it would not be any more of a price increase for the base model than the typical year to year price adjustment of 2-3%

I'm sure this is a great track car, but it's going to look ridiculous on the street IMO.

Tail is longer than the nose: looks a little too much like an Acura NSX to me. Never cared for the look.

Then again, it took quite some time before the C7 looks grew on me....

it's my beloved Fiero as a supercar! While i have always found Corvettes amazing, I'm pretending this is how my very much missed Fiero would have turned out if they didn't discontinue it in 88. For me, I think i have to get one just on that nostalgic note!*

*since this is the internet, i have to spell out i'm not being sarcastic, i really did like my Fiero, i have many fond memories of it, and i'm really excited about the C8.

I don't know how you guys can be hatin on this car already. lol.

A 500-ish HP mid-engine sports car in the 60K range. Tell me how many other mid-engine cars with that kind of potential start below 100K?

I will miss the front-engine car and I absolutely love the way it looks, but if the price is nearly the same...who cares?

as in, 789 HP for the high performance optional engine??
