Glad it's fixed. How did they repair the melted wiring?

I always coat my headers and also wrap near. On my cars with coated headers, within a short time, you could touch the headers after running...yes, still hot, but, WAY lower temp and radiant heat off them. Might have saved my Firebird years ago from burning up when I kicked rods out at almost 150mph and oil got on them even with an engine diaper.

Surprised so few guys get headers high temp coated...not saying you can lay plastic loomed wiring against coated headers, just saying it greatly lowers the outside temp of the piping.
I have my headers coated, not wrapped though think the issue was the harness was laying on the headers under a full track day running hot.

Soldered some new wiring and heat shrinked and double taped with metal tie clips this time!

Good for you. If you ever do have oil on them, they’ll typically be below flash point. As I said, coating won’t save them laying against like you said. Glad it’s not too bad to fix.

My comment was more about after market parts and shops using plastic ties. I always try and catch that stuff and either mount a bracket somewhere or use other materials.

Funny you bring up Firebird. I couldn't keep starters on my 70 Formula 400 due to the added heat, even with coated headers and wrapped starter. Those heads made header install a PITA as well. Fresh set of motor mounts were needed for the 1st install.

My late model modified GTO had the steering rack behind the motor. The I-shaft (column to gear) went through the LH header primaries and the gear was a credit card thickness away. Coated and wrap still baked the paint off the shaft and partially melted the tie rod rubber boot. The stock LH exhaust manifold had good clearance...
