Since your dealer says no to 0W-40, then you're sticking with Dexos1 5W-30.

Hey people, you can do the oil changes yourself if you want to and maintain your warranty. Just save all receipts for your oil and filters in case something does happen. That’s what I have done since owning my ‘16 SS and I was told by 2 dealerships that it wouldn’t be a problem for them if I did the oil changes myself.

Does anyone here know of a contact person at GM/CHEVY that can make an official statement about this oil?

And remind the dealer that the 2019 model has new oil requirements.

The 2019 now calls for the new, mobil 1 0w-40 ESP which has to be ORDERED by the dealer in liter bottles. It is not yet available in BULK so make sure you have this conversation with the dealer a WEEK in advance....

Here is what I did noting I have an '18 SS. Manual clearly states use Dexos "Approved" but displays the Dexos Gen2 "logo". Fine then they say go to GMdexos.com where you will find a myriad of "approved oils" . Some are Synthetic Blend others are Full Synthetic and these are the Gen2 approved oils. So that part is easy. Tons of oils in the $20-$30 range/5 qts. I also downloaded the Corvette manuals and again no reference of this super expensive 0W-40 was found in those manuals. Perhaps there is a supplement to the Supercharged LT4 but since i don't own one I wouldn't know.
Then I researched Mobil 1 oils and the ESP oil is for Emmission System Performance , e.g. diesel car engines because blow by would hurt the Diesel Particulate Filter, (DPF) . Note however that the diesel engines in say my '17 Silverado don't require that oil. No where could I find that ESP stood for something else nor could I find it was particularly beneficial to your basic naturally aspirated , DI engine. Dexos Gen2 was really developed for DI turbo motors to see if they could bring down valve deposits a little bit. That part was easy to find but how much those deposits go down was a number that I couldn't find. So the Gen2 label is a certification against those deposit tests. So I'm fine doing more of this "research" but I would like to see the 2019 manual. Furthermore if people see in print something different then what I found then by all means let's advance the argument here but from what I have found the oW-40 is a total waste other than for tracking the cars but along those lines I would say somebody has to dive in to find that out as well as I sure didn't stumble across it. |

Brought this in they said they already knew, had it in stock, and didn't charge me a penny.
