I know it is an old thread but still ongoing. Can I /we have some updates from the guys who did the change of the thermostat and fan adjustments.

Leave the thermostat alone. The car knows what to do. Unless you're running more boost and in a hot climate, leave it. If you do change it, do a 180*. Pinch the hoses, line the area with an old bath towel, remove the assembly, replace it and put it back together. If the nose is even slightly elevated you shouldn't lose very much. I was surprised when I did it on a C7 Z06 that only maybe 1-2 cups leaked out.

I’d have to go dig through my old parts, but I’m 99% sure the LT4 thermostat is 89 degrees C, or about 192 degrees.
That said, I feel a thermostat swap on a ZL1 is well worth it if you’re doing tuning already. Cooler coolant has been proven to make more power, and on this ECU, extra timing will be added. A lower temp thermostat probably won’t help on a road course, but will for street and drag use. Anything I can do to get more timing in this engine on pump gas is a win for me. I have my fan set up to maintain 180 degrees, though my t-stat is a 160. It usually runs at 165-168 on the highway. I bought a 174 stat, but haven’t tried it yet. I’ve been happy with how it runs and the track times I’ve ran (10.79 @ ~133), so have decided to leave it alone for now. |
