Next, I test drove a 2018 Mustang 5.0 6MT.The torque wasn't what I thought it would be. The 2018 Camaro SS (I had for a loaner for 4 days before I got my ZL1) felt more torquey. Then I saw a used Shelby GT350 sitting on the lot and got infatuated with that car. And probably would have gotten a new one but the dealership wouldn't give me a deal on one. They gave me a price that was close to the ZL1. I told him that that price was in ZL1 territory. He told me that the Shelby GT350 had equivalent performance to the ZL1...I said BS. I gave him my counter offer...which was way lower than a ZL1. They wouldn't come down.

So, that led me to this forum, where I lurked for a while. Until a couple weeks ago. I started searching for a deal on a fully loaded ZL1...mainly on the internet. I was willing to travel a little distance or have one delivered. But a friend of mine with a Corvette recommended a local dealership. The salesman worked with my trade and got the numbers where we could do the deal.

Well, I got her last week. New 2017 Arctic Blue Metallic leftover with 6-speed (of course), nav, sunroof, dealer tint, and PDR. I got a thumbs up driving it home. The guy literally stopped his car in the middle of the street, backed up (to get another look), then pulled forward to give me the thumbs up; with my daughter in the car...it was pretty cool. Pictures don't do this color justice. It wasn't my first or second choice. But man am I glad I went with it. Anyway, here she is:

BTW. I've removed the front license plate. The car is currently in the detail shop getting the whole front cap and other bits with protective film.

And I became a grandpa tonight...a baby boy.

You will be glad you got the 6MT. You will love it with every shift.

Fast car indeed! Go WOT and it'll push you back and up in the seat. But it does not handle well at all. It has lots of body roll and doesn't brake well enough in the corners.

Yea they are good after about 3000-4000 RPMs. That is when they fly. But until then they are dogs. You would not have been happy with it. And you would have been stuck with it for a while too. You really dodged a bullet there.

They look nice. But that is about where it all ends, lol!! And I think the salesman meant the 5th Gen ZL1 when he said it has equivalent performance to the ZL1, HAHA!! No way no how is that car even sniffing the bumper of a ZL1. It can barely beat the SS 1LE.

You made the right and only choice. Although I might've looked into a Charger HC. I also probably would have bought even the Challenger HC due to the extra room it offers. At my size the ZL1 can be a bit tough getting into and out of and that isn't even with a baby seat in it. But I think you'll be fine. Congrats! Enjoy the car!!
