It needs a refresh..the Camaro is a performance success, but it needs a refresh to correct issues that reviews have pointed out (within reason, you're not going to be able to increase visibility without changing the entire body/platform).
I don't think a midcycle refresh can address some of those bigger complaints like visibility, storage, tight backesat, etc. I think that would have to wait till gen 7.

I tend to agree with those blaming low sales volumes on the lack of adequate marketing. Someone needs to hire a marketing team with tangible clout---if selling more sports cars is a goal for GM, that is.

There is nothing in the Challenger that would explain why it would outsell either the Mustang or the Camaro, the gazillion trims simply make the lineup more confusing IMO, and the pricing isn't more competitive.

Just my 2 cents'.

I would look into incentives for February though. MSRP doens't mean much. I can tell you I was getting discounted $4-5K for 2018 Mustangs and seeing $7-9K for 2017 leftovers. Camaro? Since I didn't own a Mustang or lease a GM vehicle I was getting around $2K off 2018's and maybe $5K off 2017's.

It's possible Dodge had some good incentives which can sway people.

Ford must dump lots of Mustangs into the rental fleets. We just got back from Hawaii and saw probably 10 mustangs, mostly convertibles, for every Camaro. This was on both Oahu and Hawaii.

Dodge sure knows there marketing! By hiring Vin Diesel there appealing to more people, the challenge and charger are now more relatable. Dodge is a "brotherhood", think about that slogan for a second. I know the slogan and I don't have cable TV in my house, I've maybe seen the add once? That says a lot. Also Dodge has done but one refresh, genius.

If Chevrolet put their money into marketing, they would see way more sales. Instead, they spend their capital on a pointless refresh that will gain little to nothing.

If your a salesperson you know never to blame the product, the problem is finding an interested buyer for the car. More marketing equals more people walking onto the lot, and more sales.

Good for Ford that's a smart move, who wouldn't sell hundreds of there vehicles at once to a rental fleet? Sure you make less than selling it to a dealership, but the effort and hastle is 10x lower. Why doesn't chevy do this?
Adn meanwhile we get the crappy Chevy commericals where they have a bunch of millenials sitting on a freeway talking about reliability and quality ratings by JD Power...

Ugh. The frickin Camaro 1LE runs circles around much more expensive cars at the track and GM competely misses the opportunity to brag about it. They have this amazing handling car but most people don't know how good it handles. I think they just hear Camaro and think "big V8 that doesn't steer well"...

More pure retro styling, MUCH more practicality, and MUCH more power in the top trim levels, to just name 3.

Well for what it's worth rented a Mustang Convertible (they did have 1 Camaro Convertible) on the Big Island, after 3 days I was sure I was trading for newer Camaro... 3 weeks ago I drove a Hemi Charger R/T from Hertz while doing some work in Houston and it was a sweet ride. I have to say "IF" they built a factory Convertible Hemi Challenger R/T I would be looking it at it real hard...
But I do agree Chevy marketing needs to get on the ball. Have to agree with Thill444 that JD power off ramp ad stinks. Ever seen the Dodge commercials with the sports cars cruising thru a deserted Miami at night to Phil Collins.... Do that with Camaro's and Corvettes see what happens to sales...

One thing I missed earlier is that the Challenger drives more like an old-school muscle car.

Its 12yr old german taxi-cab chassis makes it feel faster than Camaro or mstang.

AWD in the winter must be moving Mopars.

Take everybody's points here, put them all together, and you have Camaro sales pie. Yum!

Yeah, Chevrolet sales seem to be down across the board. Of course, I don't get how Chevy doesn't advertise the Camaro better. There's plenty to brag about, so do it!

I've also noticed that there seems to be less incentives to buy this time this year versus one year ago.

I live in a small N.E. Ms. town of approx 3500 with the Al. town five miles away having approx 6000. My son and another guy I know have the only Gen 6's in the area. There are probably 5 or so Gen 5's in the area. Point to ponder, there are probably around 20 Mustangs I see regularly and about 10 of them are convertibles of various years (some definitely "ragtops"). All are base models and probably ex-rentals at a rock bottom price. There is no doubt in my mind Ford floods many sunny states with rental Mustang verts that later make their way down the food chain.

In a similar vein, my area in northern NJ is basically Mopar world, but on the plus side I've recently begun seeing more and more 6th gens, mostly LT's and a few SS's.

My neighbor across the street and me pretty much hold the Camaro front in the neighborhood (he has an awesome souped-up blue Hot Wheels edition 5th gen), and there aren't too many Mustangs around either. Heck, even the vet's petite assistant daily drives a Challenger R/T to work, go figure...

Cars are getting too low to the ground. People want to be up higher. If they made a lifted Camaro with some mild off road abilities they'd sell 100k a month.
