Calling it the "greatest" is just silly. That's all relative, and it pales in comparison to a simple 991 GT3 as far as the driving experience/headroom/comfort at speed/etc.

Is the Viper fast? Yes. But who cares. It's out. Done.
You can still order one, not dead yet...

Exactly. That's equivalent to all the knocks on Camaro visibility. All sports cars have compromises. Who cares? Fast is fast.

I pretty sure the track time of the ZL1 1LE was a topic of discussion of these privately funded gearheads. They knew they would beat it like everyone knew the ZL1 1LE would be the new ZL1.

They wanted to destroy it, not just beat it since the ZL1 1LE was just in the news over the whole world.

True Dat! Can't see out of the back of a performance car statement has no bearing on the car. That sounds like something a Mustang Fanboy would say. Does anyone think a semi-tractor driver cares about seeing out the back when he picks out a new truck...

The coolest thing about this time is the car is bone stock off the dealer floor, with some Kumhos.

That can't be said for 90% of these recent ring runs.

I'd rather you be punched in the face than see you drive a Viper as well. Lol…hey look we agree. If we are talking about experience, headroom and comfort I'm pretty sure lot's of cars outclass the GT3 in that department. You want headroom and comfort buy an RV. Wait this is a Viper thread talking about performance…….

How else should we define "greatest" in a performance vehicle built with the sole purpose of "performance". Number of cup holders? In any measurable way around a track it certainly is the GOAT. Remove opinions and feelings and look at measurable objective performance related things. If we can agree on the definition of performance then the Viper is the clear winner.

Performance: the action or process of carrying out or accomplishing an action, task, or function

In this case that task and function is lap times.

and as far as being out, and done. That will not keep it from holding all those records for the considerable future.

Gotta hand it to the Italians, they have the double threat going here. Quickest production drag car and quickest in it's class ring car.
Hat off to them as Chrysler is sticking to it's roots. I suspect the upcoming mid engine Corvette and the upcoming LT5 will also raise some eyebrows.
This Viper ACR love it or hate it is a beast.

Dude, I'm a car lover too but that statement is all emotion. And while I think the ACR is an amazing car (especially for the money), the 918 is IMO the greatest sports car today.

918 is a hybrid hyper car that cost "1 million dollars " said in Dr. Evil voice. While the statement is filled with passion and emotion….great cars evoke those feelings.. I still think it is objectively true. The 918 is a VERY advanced tech car and it is arguably the performance leader….well maybe not now that the new McClaren monkey stomped the ring..but they are only making 5 of those. A car should absolutely make you feel something. If not what is the point? When it comes to all the arguments about which car is better that is a matter of pure opinion. Unless we are talking about things that are measurable. Fastest 1/4 mile, fastest lap times etc…. When people get emotional about that and start talking about how their Mustang GT can whoop up on anything that is where we enter the realm of silly and for lack of a better word…because I hate the term…."fanboyism"

For the money, the performance, all the track titles…. I still give it to the ACR. I've seen and laid hands on two 918s in person and for me the ACR is still THE car. I love American cars and at this moment in history you have to spend an awful lot of dough to approach the performance of the top dog American rides. Also I think paying 1 million dollars for a car….any car is ludicrous. I don't care how much money you have. For the price of a 918 you could buy an ACR, a Zl1 1LE, a Z06, a Hellcat, a GT350R and still have over a half million dollars for tires, fuel, and track time.

While I respect your opinion (especially 1mil for a car- ludicrous), if money were no object though I'd take the 918 . The feel of the front wheels pulling the car out of corners is unlike anything else I've ever experienced, feels like you're cheating reality.

Having said that, I 100% agree with you in regard to the big three being able to bang with the euro rides. It's an awesome time to be a fan of American muscle/sports cars (whatever category we've morphed into). I waited decades for an american sports car that could perform with the best without costing an arm and leg - that time is here, and it's freakin awesome.

Fair enough and I respect your opinion as well. Respect is a wonderful thing and often lacking in these forums so I very much appreciate it. Given one for free I sure would not turn it down! I'd drive the hell out of it then sell it and buy the above aforementioned list. Lol. If I were to go into that realm though I'd buy a Lamborghini and put a nice lil stage one turbo kit on it. Of all the exotics the Lambo aggressive styling is what speaks to me personally. And an all wheel drive car with over 1000hp well…fun city.

EDIT… I know the 918 is approaching that power level I just like the Lambo. My iconic childhood car was the Countach.
