Yeah, the hood comment was a little harsh. It didn't come from a business mind or even car guy mind, it just came from a frustrated designer's mind lol. I look at that hood and think, great idea, people will want this style hood. However, for me it's the idea that if you're going to go through all the trouble of making that part, any part, design it TO the car. Match the factory radiuses, etc... so that the lines you create look like they were created WITH the car. The lines are just too sharp, they don't match the rest of the car. Back in the day I didn't even know what orange peel was. I drove around in a 1987 Firebird with a Maaco paint job and thought it was great lol. Someone explained to me what orange peel was and at first I was angry because it felt like my car was being put down but they were just trying to teach me and let me know what to look for. I get frustrated simply because I see a lot of large companies with a lot of money with the ability to make great things... fall short for silly reasons. The attention to detail (or lack of a true connection to the car they are designing for) is trumped by the "Let's pump out parts for this car and make money." aspect. I primarily just make parts for cars I love. I know their heritage, I know their decades of design elements and I try to always honor it. Not all the time obviously but when I'm able to fully control and make the product I want to make (like this hood, UNLIKE the Blade spoiler I made lol) it's a product of love. It also seems to sell better. According to all the industry peeps I know that make parts, we've out sold all of the other aftermarket hoods combined, 5 to 1. That's cool. It's NOT monetarily cool (I'm honestly not even sure that we've recouped prototyping and mold costs off this one yet) but it's REALLY car guy cool. That's where I come from. I never meant to start a business, it honestly just happened and I've been playing catch up to it ever since. What's great though is it's allowed me to create, bring to life not just one part or one custom car that goes to local car shows... it's allowed me to created visions I have and am passionate about, that sparks passion in others to want it on their car and love their car even more, that's pretty awesome. So, if I come across as... well, whatever I come across as on any given day lol... I'm just an average car guy who ended up getting the opportunity to bring his ideas to life... everything that comes with that I'm doing my best on but I'm still just one guy, spread thin water, staying as true as I can to who I am and what I am passionate about. As far as what people think about me... I honestly don't care. Not in a negative ahole way, but because there's a quote my dad told me the month he died I carry with me, it's from John Wooden... "Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are." I hope I am able to say most people who have ever actually dealt with me, business or otherwise, would say I'm a person of character. So yeah, I didn't take it as bashing at all, I definitely didn't feel the need to defend myself (it didn't feel like you were attacking me), I just felt that maybe I needed to explain myself better for those that don't have a history with me (basically if you owned a 4th Gen I was a hero, if you didn't you have no clue where this business 6LE popped up and came from lol). |

I purchased my hood from Mark. He was great to deal with. Yes, it may take a day or 2 for him to respond to e-mails, but being a small company, it's understandable. I live in Canada and the hood did take longer to arrive (Mark gave me a number to call regarding when my hood was shipping), it was a little back and fourth, but the QUALITY of this hood was worth it! I have owned many aftermarket hoods, and the quality and fitment was incredible. (Only wish the front of the Skorpion hood had some mesh on the front like it does on the back, had to make my own)
I would order from Mark again, and would recommend (and do) to anyone. Yes, it may take longer, but he is honest, and the products are amazing. |
