I can't help specifically with the GYs but I was at the Corvette Owners Class at Spring Mountain earlier this week and they were told by the Michelin Engineers that the cracking of the MPSSs generally didn't occur until freezing or below and GM just added 20 deg F for safety when they did the owners manual.

Actually the warning comes from GY, check the first post in this thread.

I drove my car about 40 miles yesterday morning in a temp range between 32 and 35 with no issues. Traction wasn't that bad either. Could've been partly due to tires being around 50 degrees from the start coming out of the garage and it was also sunny, so the pavement could've had a little more heat in it than the air temp, but the tire temp monitor never moved from cool.

Drove my car the other night when it was like 28 degrees. One blip of the throttle in 2nd and I had the rear end come out on me. It was orgasmic.

I second the statement on Super Sports for colder conditions and even rain. I know it may not help your situation at the exact moment but Super Sports were the first thing I bought for the car so I could hit up Laguna Seca in the winter. I've since found the Conti's to be even better in wet / cold. The reason I mention this is that I think of a tire purchase on a $70,000 investment to be cheap insurance and a way to enjoy the car in 3 seasons as opposed to 1.5. Perhaps it's worth a grand to you?
