Kind of a 2ss-1LE with automatic transmission!
That's the one you want, but have to wait .....

Considering you are not tracking the car I would absolutely go the 2SS route. You will enjoy the additional options/features/comforts for day to day driving a lot more than the components you get with the 1LE.

The good news is it's a win-win either way! Best of luck.

I can't really help on 2SS vs 1LE. I went 2SS without ever driving a 1LE. I'm really happy with the 2SS and how it drives.

I can speak to car seats. I'm 6'4" and the rear of my seat touches the front of the back seat. I have a three year old in a forward facing car seat. It's the same big EvenFlo seat he's had for a few years now. His seat fits fine in the rear seat. It's a pain to put it in when I forget to lower the adjustable height back. When my older son rides front passenger and my three year old is behind him there is plenty of room. The one time we tried to take all 4 of us my wife was too far forward in her seat to be comfortable with my older son behind her. I had the driver seat forward enough to let my three year old sit behind me and it was technically driveable. This arrangement was only for a 45 minute drive. There's no way this would work as our primary car.

My three year old climbs into the seat himself. We are using the car seat belt and not the LATCH and harness. It's very easy to grab his seatbelt and buckle him in while I sit in the driver seat. I haven't tried using the car seat harness to buckle him in but imagine it would be fine since I got decent at doing it one handed.

The Camaro is a great three person car if at least one person is a very small child.

Thers about 3 threads on this including one I started myself.

Basically the 2ss has the comfort features. The 1LE is more purposed track car that is very driveable as a daily car.

You can buy the 1LE stuff from thatgmpartsguy.com/performance/
  • FE4 (1LE Suspension) components for SS models
  • GM 1LE Wheels (Not MRR)
  • Shorth Throw Shifter (Same as 1LE)
  • 6 Piston Brakes
  • Hood Wrap with Hashmarks on the sides
  • Front Splitter
  • Lip Spoiler

The only thing you can not get is ELSD and PDR...
But you get all the fancy stuff in the 2SS and the possibility of the A8...

See I looked at the 1LE but I have a very bad knee.
I love the idea of one, but would never be able to drive it comfortably.
I have to get an A8. I don't care for PDR because I have an aftermarket version I will install... the only thing is ELSD...

I am looking at getting a 50th Anniversary. My current Gen5 is an M6 car (That I can't drive very much anymore) so I am going to be getting the H50 (Fifty Edition) with the FE4 Suspension, A8, and GM 1LE rims?!?! hell Yeah why not?

I am not saying it is a 1LE or even a clone but I get everything I want in 1 car!

I get what your saying and not to be argumentative but technically the MRR017 is flow-formed and not cast. There sure seem to be enough people running them with no issue. In terms fo strength I've managed to damage both kinds rock-crawling with the truck so I'd say neither is impenetrable.

For the point of this thread though I guess if the OP really wanted to go with the SS he could just choose to double the cost and get the OEM wheels. Or if he wanted he could go to after market and find a different pair of true forged wheels that would be 1LE like'ish. At the end of the day aftermarket can provide 1LE performance(minus e-diff) to an SS. For me personally I get a car exactly the way I want it.

Based on what the OP has said here:
1) won't track the car
2) likes shifter feel in 1LE
3) Possibly interested in interior lighting gadgetry in 2SS

6) Going to be using a child seat in the back

I vote 2SS because of a few safety features over the 1LE. Also will be more of a comfortable ride with the MRC. Heated seats will come in handy in Maryland. Dual zone climate likely to win favor with the wife. Overall just seems the more "family oriented" of the two, not that a Camaro is a great family car to begin with.

Safety features are the same on both cars (2ss versus 1LE), MRC is the same on both cars as the 1LE has MRC as well, dual zone is OK though I don't ever use it.

Does the 1LE have the blind-spot detection? I wasn't sure.
