Viewing the 6th gen Camaro while it's stationary doesn't do it justice. I feel this car looks so menacing when it is in motion. This is especially the case when viewing the car from the front end with just the LED DRLs on. I've seen other 6th Gens while driving mine and thought to myself

I would not buy 5th over 6th. 6th is much better looking.

I love my 2011 SS but after checking out the 6th Gen I can admit it is a nicer car, as it should be. If you're hung up on looks and the interior isn't that important then go with a 5th Gen (2010 - 2013 of course).

Being from Ontario I can understand your insurance dilemma. I was 29 when I got my car and insurance didn't kill me but I was over the 25 year mark which helped. Check out Howard Mutual or Johnson Insurance as I've found them to be the most competitive.

Don't be afraid to drive this car in the winter as long as you have snow tires. I don't envy the traffic you must endure being in Toronto or the GTA. I'm in farm country and have a bit more space for "spirited" driving.

After a year, you will have nice down payment, a better sense of what you can afford, more knowledge about the car and what you want, and a much better chance of finding a gently used one matching your preferences.
This is a great idea. I'd say put the difference between your current car payment and the new payment PLUS the difference in insurance cost in the bank. But an excellent plan.

5gen is definitely a badass ride and i was in the very same position you were when i bought mine. Test drove a 15 1SS a 14 1LE and they just didnt perform as well and i like the interior and rear end better on the 6gen. The 5gen felt slow in a direct test drive comparison. I happen to think the 6gen looks mean as hell too

Also didnt hurt that i found mine for $32k, pretty much the same as what the 5gens mentioned were going for.

big and brawny looking? AND you're up in snowy canada? hey, how about big, brawny looking V6, AWD dodge challenger. (incidentally, i just went the other way, from a charger r/t, to a 'maro ss.) to me, the v8 is crucial, but i'm not you. and v6, AWD dodge pony car might be perfect for you ... can i say that here? by the way, i LOVE my camaro; and i'm no traitor, it's my 4th camaro ... and 6th chevrolet (had a ew '92 vette, and '76 cosworth vega).

Anybody remember Mike Feneca? As soon as he retired he worked off the flab and ran a marathon.

I'd go with a 6th gen. IMO, it is better in every way, exterior, interior and performance. Can't go wrong.

Went from a 13 2ss manual 5th gen I bought brand new in 14 then dumped a shit ton into it (heads, cam, headers, exhaust, cai) and loved it. Sold it a year and some change later (also had an 09 Z06 and 12 ctsv wagon, and a 13 grand cherokee srt at the same time lol). Oilfeild took a shit and I sold them all (all were paid for), and daily drove a used 02 Z06 and an 09 civic si I got for cheap (dumped the rest on my current house dp). Long story short after i got my present job (not oilfeild) and got stable I sold the si and 02 Z06 and picked up my 17 2ss 50th (paid for). After having both there is absolutely zero comparison (this is unbiased) and I don't miss my 5g the least bit. I kinda miss the thumping cam and aggressive exhaust but mine is currently down getting supercharged, cam, headers, heads, forged bottom end, exhaust, blah, blah, blah). Op it's your money so get what you want and be happy. Imho though there is no way a 5g can touch a 6g) unless pricing is an issue. Interior quality, imho exterior styling, and for me performance was a huge deal for me. The corvette derived Lt1 is a monster in the lighter platform 6g over the pig heavy 5g with the ls3.

+1

The 5th gens are great cars and fun to drive. The 1LE is a good choice if you want a manual, but unless you track you will want to swap out the stock tires maybe to michelins.

I agree about the look. Every time I see a ZL1, 1LE, or a nicely modded not over done 5th gen I get nostalgic. To me the 5th gen is more bada$$ looking. But the 6th gen looks are growing on me a little.

Of my three fifth gens I miss my ZL1 the most and more than my twin turbo 1LE. One of the best all around performance cars of all time in my book.

My advice is go for the 5th gen, than later upgrade when it better suits your finances. Do the sensible thing, you will have just as much fun and thank yourself later.

The 6th gen Camaros get hit hard on resale. There are a few around, so an alternative plan might be to save your $$ and then when you have enough saved look around for a good deal.

Thanks so much for all your feed back dudes. I can't possibly reply to everyone but yes I do agree that the 6th Gen is superior in almost every aspect and as someone who loves his tech. bells and whistles, interior comfort and styling do matter a lot than just aggressive looks to me.

Also, I wanted to clarify that when I said financial suicide, I didn't mean that I'm crazy enough to take out a loan, credit line, live hand to mouth, etc. I meant I'd literally be tightened up to the point where after depositing a little in my savings account after paying all my bills, I'd have coffee money left over only (which I guess is a financial suicide to some depending on their life style)

Thanks so much for all your opinions dudes, I can't wait till I can jump into a Camaro - hopefully soon!
