Your 69 is definitely a classic and very nice.

I think he is just going by what certain states classify cars as for registration purposes.

Great advice on buying ! I think I would rather have a better engine vs numbers matching ! Which would you not give up your old or new camaro ? Which do you enjoy more for those that have both

I have had my old one for 10 years, I don't really crave the attention I get when I drive it. Just enjoy driving it. That being said, it would be the first to go because it would not be a very good daily driver.

Not a classic, just old but I have a 93 Trans Am, first car and have kept it going on 17 years. I am a Pontiac F-body guys, but my options are some what limited on new Pontiac F-bodies seeing as there are none.

1970 rs split bumper with factory ac. I bought the car about 7 years ago as a project. Installed new zz5 crate motor. 400 hp 400 ft lbs mated to 2004r overdrive tranny. Still have body work and paint. Original thought was to match paint with my 16 2ss nightfall grey. I have a hard time staying interested in finishing the car as the new one is so much fun to drive.

I had two first gens - both hot rods and a new third gen that I drove for 10 years.

The best first gen was a 69 with a full C4 front clip with aftermarket steering and coilovers. Car handled pretty good for a classic but nothing like a new SS. Also had a built EFI LT-1 making close to 400hp. But again nothing like the new 6.2 motor. I tried using it as a daily for while but didn't work. And as a weekend car also didn't work - I spend weekends with my wife for the most part and often on a road trip to visit one of our kids. Classic is no good for that even when done as a pro touring car. New SS fits the bill for me as a weekend car that could also be used as a daily if I wanted to.

Your state of residence sure hasn't made it easy for pro touring guys in the least. The gambit of ever changing laws in regards to emissions/engine swaps has definitely caused damper in most car guys pampers. Last I was reading what ever year engine is in the car is now what that vehicle is considered. I would just deal with new cars as well. I am sure there's ways around the system, but that becomes taxing pretty quickly.

Well - there are always ways around these things. I had two completely modified motors in a C4 and 3rd gen with long tube headers, solid roller cams and even fully aftermarket computers. Things can be dealt with just sayin

But the classics are all exempt from all that bs. 73 and earlier are smog exempt. So you can do whatever you see fit.

The classic car definition is an odd duck, there's a lot of classic car shows that exclude anything built after 1981. I am just waiting for the 25 year mark so I can tag my 4th gen as a classic and not deal with emissions any longer.

Texas is the same way, my 93 doesn't have a snow balls chance in hell of passing. But some how it stays tagged. Speaking of solid rollers, that's some thing I regret not doing, if the current set up ever comes apart I am almost certain I would switch. Or at least try a low lash set up, using a solid lifter on a hydraulic cam. I did ditch the Chip ECM which I am sure you're very familiar with for an LS based PCM and ignition.

I dont think it's the definition of classic. Rather it's people mis-using the word or not understanding how it's defined.

You can't define a term like "classic" and "antique" on fixed date ranges. That's retarded because then what happens in 30 years. What do we call cars then that are 50+ years old? Neo-classic? Neo-Antique?

It's a definition that is based on age not date. There are other words that describe dates. Such as so-and-so era (brass era, vintage era, veteran era, antique era, post-war era, etc). Until you get to modern era and then you'llhave to start using terms for decades if you want to get specific to a date range rather than an age range.
