Oh ok, thought the C8 rumors were tied to these spy shots too.

I think it's possible, especially given the cooling issues that this is a reworked ZO6. Hopefully there is still a LT5 being worked on with GM reacquiring the trademark.

If it is just the updated hood/fascia for the current Z06 why would it have to be camo'd then?

They cover up the refresh for each car. This is basically an emergency refresh.

I guess that makes sense if the fascia and hood are that drastic of a change. I could see it being a refresh if it was across the board for the C7 but bc its just the Z06 is why I was curious as the need to cover it up

PR probably. Makes for a bigger reveal.

Update 8/10/16: A new set of spy photos shows another ZR1 mule with new details.

The test car has blue brake calipers like those used on the C6 ZR1. (That one was nicknamed Blue Devil, remember?) There's something fragile wrapped in bubble wrap sitting in the car, which could be the wing that rests on those perches visible on the rear end. A wing on risers gives some differentiation from the Z06's vertical spoiler, and also suggests this one might need more downforce. We also get a better look at what now really looks like a carbon-fiber center hoop, between the roof panel and the hatch. A carbon hood is also a good bet, because why not?

Whatever is under the hood, it needs plenty of cooling, as evidenced by the air inlets for intercoolers at the front corners. This could simply mean a more-powerful supercharged LT4 V8, or possibly a rumored LT5 twin-turbo small-block. Turbos would be a good way to differentiate this new top Corvette from its more sanely powered siblings. Rumors peg ZR1 output around 700 hp, and we bet it would at least outdo the 707-hp rating of SRT's Hellcat engine.

I can't wait to see the outrage when people see that.

Well Dodge did the same with the ACR. Outrage stopped when they saw what it did for it on the track. But that is a huge wing.

Yeah, but the Viper has always been more extreme than the Corvette. If people got upset over square tail lights, they are going to lose their minds over a big wing.

I hope GM does something different with this car, like twin turbo over 700 hp.

Legally I don't think there could be any less tread on those tires.
