Vette lists it as 2.43 iirc but it would be wrong to assume it's the same in the ZL1

Oh, not sure. The 1LE one is 3:42...A10 couldn't be anywhere near that.

Oh ok was about to say that would be a hell of a lot of gear for the A10.

It's called a torque converter. If you google what those do you will realize why the automatic feels different. Hint it has something to do with a thing called torque multiplication.

Nice. Definitely an advantage, especially with that 2.85 final. Going to be interesting to see what the ZL1 will do in the 1/4.

I saw a comparison online the other day(sorry, cannot recall where) and they were comparing a Manual SS to a Manual GT and kept mentioning how down on tq the SS felt. Vs a 5.0????? That BLEW MY MIND! But I did not consider that I have an A8, and the difference that would play in the results. I assure you that the A8 is NOT down on tq. At any time.

It is funny how the CVT is technically a great transmission for performance as they just sit in the rpm range where peak torque is produced but we tend to hate them since they don't bang threw gears and they sound and feel weird as a result. Lately, engineers have been introducing stepped gears for CVTs so they feel more like traditional transmissions even though that defeats the whole purpose of the CVT design. It look like for us performance enthusiasts we will get transmissions with more and more gears. My Camaros have gone from A4, A6, A8 and soon A10. Anyone have an idea when we will see the A12? :-)

Where did we see 3.42 listed? It says 3.73 on the press release!

  • Unique forged-aluminum wheels with 285/30ZR20 front tires and 305/30ZR20 rear tires
  • Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires with a compound and construction developed exclusively for Camaro
  • Brembo brakes with new 6-piston monobloc front red calipers and 2-piece rotors
  • Track cooling package with engine oil, differential and transmission coolers
  • Suede steering wheel with shorter-throw shifter
  • Dual-mode exhaust system
  • RECARO front seats with aggressive bolsters optimized for shifting and steering comfort
  • Satin black hood, front mirrors and unique 3-piece rear spoiler
  • Available Performance Data Recorder
Also if you multiply the torque on both the 1LE and ZL1 (A10) by their first gear effective ratios you end up with a clear view that 1st gear is completely useless in the ZL1!

1LE (Assuming 400RWTQ @ 1:1)
400 x 9.92 = 3,968 Effective TQ in first gear

Auto ZL1 (Assuming 575RWTQ @ 1:1)
575 x 13.4 = 7,705 Effective TQ in first gear

You can tell this trans was codeveloped by Chevy and Ford with the primary intention of placing them in trucks. If it was for performance only they could have dropped that first gear ratio and placed another ratio somewhere in the middle to add another useful gear.
