Dang OP so sorry for you . Glad your semi okay and hope your back issues isn't too serious. My advise is to take this with a cool, clam approach, meaning don't get sue happy without all your ducks in a row. Sometimes people in these situations can get taken advantage of by the insurance companies because they are hot headed. Just be smart about it all is all I'm saying. Good luck with the repairs OP.

Just curious here, how many of you will double tap the brakes when anything with a trailer is following you or think you may end up stopped in the road?

There are a couple of roads around me where there are side roads on a curve or steep grade with a history of pileups from cars stopped in the road. People get lulled into auto-pilot at 55mph highway speeds. Seems like a couple flashes on the brake lights wakes people up some, may be in my head but I've never been rear-ended.

Great advice! Sad to see the condition of the car and hope you will be fine in the long run.

Good to hear everyone walked away from these accidents, it really sucks to see all the new Camaro's involved... What a mess for all the parties and insurance companies! Looks like the Camaro insurance rates will keep rising.

Don't run out and lawyer up, you will be very unhappy how long they draw it out. Try to handle it yourself first and then if you are not getting anywhere, it is till an option. Even if you get less than a lawyer, scumbags, you come out ahead vs the 35 to 40% they take.

I would listen to the texan above me. Save a lawyer as last resort. You were hit by an elderly guy with a new truck and a boat, he's got good insurance and they don't want to be sued hard by your insurance, so they'll bend pretty fast.

Looking the front and rear frame damage, you are 50/50 on getting totaled, but the car will never be "straight" again if they try to repair. The trunk hinges are bolted to the unibody underneath and your trunk is off farther than it looks like the hinge would bend. Get a well known chiropractor and general physician to both check you out. Not everything is in your spine.

Also, be prepared for the Sentra's insurance company (or lawyer if they don't have insurance) to sue you and your insurance company. This is commonplace because they will argue that you stopped too close to them to prevent transfer of injury. If that Sentra spun, then it doesn't matter if you were a safe stopping distance apart, your car was hit too hard. Your insurance company will defend on this to put it on the at-fault drivers insurance only.

Double check your police report. If they didn't immediately mark the rearward driver as the only at-fault party, you need to contact the patrol sergeant to get it sorted out. An inaccurate police report can hurt you.

Good luck.

I still believe it is necessary for there to be mandatory yearly drivers license retesting after age 65.
I believe you should lose your license permanently if you are caught dui or texting while driving, but that won't ever happen.

Very sorry to see your car like that.

I had nearly this exact same situation occur on the interstate. I had just dropped off my Camaro at the dealer that morning before work. On the way home there was new construction. They were cutting up the road and laying new cement in sections. The interstate split off to an off ramp/on ramp for the next interstate, that was normally two lanes, but is now 1. I was able to fit in on the right lane in front of a truck pulling a huge camper, and I realized there was an older guy driving the trailer, and it seemed too heavy.

A car followed directly behind me too quickly for my liking and I remember thinking that the trailer was going to have a hard time stopping later, so I kept my distance from the cars in front of me. They proceeded to tailgate me the next 5 miles in stop and go traffic. Finally we went up to 45 - 55 or so for about a mile, then suddenly everyone stopped.

I double tapped my brakes but saw the car behind me barely stop in time, with smoke behind them. I glanced further back in the rear view mirror and saw the truck/trailer hauling fast, with locked tires smoking following him towards us right as the guy behind me quickly pulled off to my left into the ditch/shoulder. I had no choice but to give that 1.5L engine everything it had and go between the barrels into the closed off right lane next to me (where they hadn't cut yet). I swear in that 1 second I felt my car wouldn't make it in time to the next lane!

I made it just in time to see the truck and trailer slide to a smoking halt right before the car I was stopped in front of. The car behind me would have not done so well, and I most likely wouldn't have either. I hope they both learned their lessons that day. My wife was freaking out thanking me for saving her life lol.

Wow man, that really sucks. Glad you're okay though. I was hit by a drunk driver a few weeks back. Horrible.

I feel your pain OP, I too just went through the same thing. Had an accident last year in June, insurance wanted to fix it. To make a long story short. After months of a drivability issue they finally totalled it. In Texas the insurance company can pay beyond the value of the vehicle for repairs. It happen to me. They paid over $39,000 and then had to total it for $42,000. Now I'm driving a Malibu until my ZL1 comes in and I can't wait to order.

I'm sorry this happened to you. It's a crappy experience and will take time to move on from. I'm glad overall you're alright though; as for the car, hopefully the best outcome occurs. Hang in there.

That really sucks man! One thing that stands out other than what was stated, the Pathfinder has a tow rating around 5,000 lbs based on a quick search. If he was towing over that amount there's a possibility that his insurance won't cover or protect him. Something to be aware of and maybe bring up to your insurance company or lawyer. This was always a concern for me when tower a camper, airbags and such doesn't change what the truck or SUV was rated for and becomes a liability that most aren't aware of. Good luck.

Sorry to see your SS in that shape. Hopefully you can get a settlement either repaired or replaced without any problems from all parties involved. Good luck! I see it everyday the idiots on the roads. I have had a few close calls in my '16 as seems some people have posted here. There are the texters, the people with the phones glued to their ears that don't have a clue of anything around them, the semis neck and neck on the interstate holding up traffic in both lanes behind them and of course the slower people camped out in the left lane that refuse to move over to the right lane when someone behind them is trying to pass on the interstate and lastly the tailgaters that ride your butt. There seems to be no courtesy on the road anymore! I drive in a defensive mode all the time now. Good luck with your Camaro.
