By extreme circumstance, do you mean being outside your cellular sevice provider's coverage? What does CarPlay do in a "No service" area?

One thing that everyone is missing, with the GM NAV, it ahs real time traffic, but ONLY if you subscribe to satellite radio and pay extra for the traffic add on.
I use android auto and it displays on the 8" screen. It also has real time traffic and I think it is more accurate as it uses real time data from everyone driving with location on.

I really like having the NAV on the HUD. However I will admit Google normally gives better directions

Go Navy... Oh wait, nevermind. I don't have the Nav, but my wife has it on the Equinox. I like the Google app and Android Auto just fine.

I really like my Nav system. It was a requirement when out shopping for our Camero, as my wife is "directionally challenged". We also have iPhones, but not a fan of using the phones for nav & Apple maps. i will say the voice commands hasn't always worked to our liking. Seems to always misunderstand what we are saying.
I (we) think the $500 option was well worth it in a car like this. |

The car's 'Siri eyes' function works amazing with voice commands. After a year of having this car (this thread is that old), I love Apple car play! I do not regret my choice to not pick the built in NAV. Even with having it on my 5th gen, I thought I would miss it. That said, it's still cool option to have, but not having it it's just as cool lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's such a cheap option why spend so much time debating it. Just get it. If anything it'll help resale value down the road.

$500. 00 isn't a deal breaker, helps resale, and Car Play / Android Auto uses data, so if you want to navigate on a long trip, it's something to consider

I think you are getting some good advice here. Because $500 is relatively cheap and it sounds like you would use it, I think you should get it. I was almost guaranteed never to use it, so i passed.

I'm a big fan of how the nav. is integrated into the dash and the HUD and since i drive in the mountains a lot i like the fact it doesn't rely on cell coverage in order to function.
With the upcoming turns popping up in the HUD its impossible to miss your next turn... i dont care how you mount your cell phone or use carplay/android... looking down at a screen will never be as good as having it pop up right there in front of your eyes It has some nice features for a built in nav with multiple choices for routing and displays... shortest/fastest/most economical ?(i still haven't tried that one out yet) POI's are good and seem up to date it boots up and locks onto sats as fast as any Garmin i've owned for the money and integration i think its definitely a value added option. |
