You could make a pretty sweet v6 with a few mods. Still not an lt1 and I'd rather have a 1ss then the v6 at the same price. Just need the power and if you look at just a few of the cars I've had you'll understand its an addiction, a must have or otherwise I'd just keep my 15 2ss Rs and it runs pretty good, just not in the LT1 SS category.

I think there is room for all and not all can afford or want to spend that much so its all good and one size does not fit all. For me its just the thrill of the V8 for others its just having a really cool ride with decent power and handling.

I'll just offer you my struggle between the two in summary.
My plan was to get the V6, but with it optioned how I wanted (not necessarily needed), I was hitting $40K. I then questioned if I really wanted to spend $40K on a V6. For me, in my current situation, that made the jump to go for the SS much easier. I had a C6 Corvette, then a 2010 Camaro LS, then a 2011 Volt, and now a 2014 Camaro 1LT (until I get my 2SS). As you can see, my wants and needs are all over the place and I do some atypical cross-shopping on cars. My choice now was between the 2016 Camaro or the 2016 Volt. Went to the find new roads tour and fell in love with the Hyper Blue Camaro with Ceramic White interior there. Had one of the reps rev the engines with NPP on the 6 and the 8 (both fantastic), but really missed the power from the vette and all the amenities plus more from the Volt. With everything going on around the world, I really decided to just forfeit my budget for the 2SS that I fell in love with at the find new roads tour. I think as long as you get what you really want then you won't be disappointed. I went from a C6 to a 2010 Camaro LS with Heritage Wheels lol. Huge change, but at the time I just wanted a sporty car on a budget. I still can't believe how many compliments I received on that car. Black on black with the black wheels and tons of compliments from many that were in cars much more expensive than the LS. I think that the Zaino helped lol. I'm sure that the current V6 is a great engine, but you have to decide if it'll satisfy you. Moving from the vette to the 6 cylinder Camaro in 2010 did satisfy what I was looking for then and didn't have any regrets. My mindset with the pricing on the 2016 is opposite yours as I just couldn't justify that price for the V6 and in the back of my head I kinda wanted that V8 power I was starting to miss. Choose what makes you happy and you can't go wrong. If you feel like it's a compromise for you and you'd have regrets, I wouldn't do it. I considered the T4, V6, A8, but ended up with a 2SS 6 speed. To each their own. I don't think you can go wrong with the new Camaro in any configuration if you get what you really want.

I've passed 500 miles on my V6 and started to push a bit harder on it. There definitely isn't any problem exceeding posted speed limits quickly and easily.
I'm still going easy on it and trying not to get too deep into the throttle or too high on the RPM's. It is pretty difficult because the engine wants to rev. I can say without question that the V6 is a legitimate sports car. The handling is balanced and precise. The car feels eager and ready for back roads shenanigans. The V6 weighs ~ 250 lbs less than the SS. And the fact remains that it's the same car! One or two structural bits and brakes (just some more cooling and a beefier trans on the V8). The manual V6 even has the same rear end as the SS from what I remember reading. Put some sticky tires on the V6 and it'll likely hold the same lateral g's as the SS. Throw in the $485 brake & cooling package and it'll be ready for light track duty as well. Of course the SS gets the bragging rights. However, I'm not regretting my decision to buy the V6 at all so far.

The best I can tell you is to find an LT at a local dealer and drive it. Make up your mind afterwards.
Are you buying it for a DD or for more of an weekend toy. I've had a 2011 2SS/RS M6, and currently a 2013 ZL1 as well as a 2015 Malibu with a 2.0 turbo in it so I have something to compare a 2016 2LT RS to. I've driven the 2016 2LT Auto, and for me, it had plenty of power to use as a DD. In fact I was VERY tempted to trade my 2015 Malibu in on the 2LT to use as a DD. I'd say it has just as much performance as my 2011 2SS with no doubt better gas mileage. I'd have no regrets going with a 2016 V6. |

With a 300lb reduction in weight, more hp, and a great handling chassis the V6 looks like a great value and all the power you need for day to day driving. I would be comparing the suspension tradeoffs with the SS and whether you can upgrade without replacing major parts.
If the car is your "halo" car then get the V8.

The V6 has the horsepower numbers on paper but in the real world just lacks too much low end rpm torque for me to be happy driving one every day. Was real close to buying a Camaro a year ago but drove the V6 and just not enough torque so wouldn't buy that and the V8 Camaro's on the lot for sale was well over 40,000 and I only paid 48,000 for my new C7 Corvette so couldn't justify buying a Camaro at a Corvette price. But now that the new Camaro has the Corvette V8 engine and most of the Corvette electronics inside I will probably buy the 1SS in the 38,000 price range and be happy.

There is really no gas savings with the V6 if you are going Automatic. They both make 28 MPG highway and almost the same city with 19 vs 17.

Best and only needed answer. Test drive both and decide for yourself it you think it's worth the money. No one can tell you if you will be happy with the v6 but you. /Thread

I was shocked at how great it sounded without the NPP. I really want to get one with NPP but I'm thinking I won't be disappointed if I end up not getting it.
