I've only owned sticks and this order I went auto. This will be my daily driver in a lot of stop and go traffic. I look forward to having the auto for the daily drive, and the manual mode for the thrill rides.

I was determined to learn how to drive stick and no one in my family had one for me to learn on. So when I was about 21-22 I just went out to many dealers and test drove a bunch of manuals. For me it came very naturally and quickly because I was determined to learn, watched the Dukes of Hazzard religiously when I was a kid, and built plastic model cars. I basically fantasized about and was obsessed with rowing my own gears.
That was about 16 years ago and I have never even considered owning an automatic nor will I ever. If you want to learn and want to buy your Camaro with a stick just go out and test drive manuals at dealers. |

All of you that are saying this thread will turn into a shit show are the ones making it turn into a shit show. If you read the relevant comments most of them are tame and not judgemental. I have quite enjoyed reading the posts from the people wanting to learn to drive a manual.

A bad day driving a stick was getting caught in a monsoon and having to get out to go under the hood because the gears on my truck were hung up, the old 3 on the tree days. Good times from my youth.

The clutch pedal is about as useful and about as much fun as unpowered windshield wipers.
I can't imagine settling for a six speed manual when an eight speed auto with paddle shifters is available. |

Don't worry about Eric, people just have strong opinions than others, and this thread is not going to go downhill, unless people get outta hand with their comments. I too want a manual, but always ended up with an auto, mainly due to work. It would be kind of hard talking on the radio while shifting a manual, I even have a difficult time with it while auto shifting on my current car. I know once I retire, I will be getting a manual.

I just didn't enjoy the experience of not being able to row my own gears in a car that is not meant to be tame if that makes sense. I enjoy the A8 in my BMW because it's meant to be smooth and deliver power in a linear way. When I'm driving a muscle/pony car, I want it to feel almost unrefined and a bit unpredictable when I slam on the gas. I want the power to be instantaneous and unbridled. I know it's NOT slow, but when I got on the Camaro A8, it didn't feel any faster than my current car. I know it is, but I didn't get the perception of speed. If felt much slower than my M6 99 Camaro SS was and I know it's not. Honestly, I was pretty disappointed when I mashed on the gas and it downshifted and took off. I was expecting 455hp to feel faster. I'm hoping I can get that feeling when I drive the M6 when one comes in.
