They also use tubular headers instead of cast manifolds which would change the sound a lot.

First, why can't you count the NPP exhaust? You get a choice with LS3 that you don't with the Mustang. You can have a quiet exhaust or you can have the dual mode.

Now the problem with the L99 is that they have to keep it quiet because of the AFM. They sound horrible when they switch to 4-cylinder mode with a loud exhaust.

Besides, exhaust is easy enough to switch out to suit your preferences.

My 4.6 3valve sounded better than my 5.0 because of the firing order. The older 2valve 4.6 is the best sounding Mustang in my opinion.

I always thought those older Mustang GTs (I don't know what years) sounded like they were running in a tin can. The exhaust sounded loud and raspy to me.

I'm not a big fan of the Coyote's exhaust note, sounds a little too european for my taste. I do enjoy the sound of the SVT modular motor's as found in the Ford GT, GT500 and Cobra's (manifolds and all), even the 2 valves and old push rod 5.0's sound good with exhaust, but I think the topic is focused on stock equipment. Ford made a good choice my switching to a H design mid pipe in 2011 over the previous X on the rear mounted muffler 05+. C&D did a name that tone video and the 2011 GT500 blew the 2010 away in its exhaust note.

The Coyote's Ti-VCT (V-tec) is probably another reason why some like the exhaust note. Tuners and even make it sound like it has a wicked cam swap all with a few strokes of the keyboard, which I think is pretty cool. I guess Ford thought there's no harm in giving its Mustang GT owners an aggressive exhaust note, I mean its a 420hp Mustang GT and not a Taurus.

I always wondered why my wife's 2010 mustang GT premium sounded better than my SS.
Dang it. I need long tubes and a cam!

"wow" about these responses. If I ever purchase a car because of the 'sound' of the exhaust, instead of performance and looks, shoot me now.

"well, I know it has 100 less hp, and it looks like shit inside, and I don't care about how the front looks, but damn that exhaust, I'll take it only if you sell it to me for $1K more."

I don't think anyone said they will buy a car for the exhaust sound. Obviously that is not that case as we are all Camaro owners.

Well technically they are also quicker too.

But even with LT headers on my ss, I still think mustang can make a better sound, unfortunately, its nothing we can change lol. Its the actual engine / heads

I have to agree. My ATAK catback helped immensely though.

I would think those wanting to create a sleeper would want it quiet to not announce to the world what you have.... It's kind of counter productive to debadge your SS or put a V6 fascia on it and then add loud exhaust.....

I get that, but even with modding the GT still has a better tone/rumble in most cases.
A friend with a 5.0 has borla catback....it's one of only a few 5,0s I've heard with an aftermarket exhaust...mostly the camaros and mustangs I see all have the factory exhaust ..all IMO are quiet......when we race he says he likes the sound of my car better then his..and so do I. His car sounds really good rowing the gears. Maybe it's my location but most of these cars seem quiet.
