Are you serious? You would have chose to stand there and get beat with a pipe or jack by a gang of armed thugs and leave your family at their mercy once you've een beaten, possibly killed He had every right to draw. He did not fire. However if the punk continued to approach he would have been justified. With his family there he had no choice to retreat. Punks lucky he's not dead.

Open carry here in Az. There have been a number of times I've driven up to get gas or run into a store in a shady neighborhood where I would be getting evil looks only to have all eyes turn away as I exited with my Sig SP2022 or M&P Shield on my hip. If perps knew there was a 90% chance the "victim" was armed there would be far fewer muggings, rapes, armed robberies, etc, or less crowded jails.

Carrying a firearm is a huge responsibility. Hats off to the OP. glad you and your family are safe. It just shows how ther are still plentry of racists out there. Punishment should be a walk through Compton having to shout what he called you. What a coward this guy was. He didn't even have the guts to face you without a weapon even with a gang behind him.

1st: Semper Fi. (not sure which branch but you deserve that).
I think it was better to draw your weapon vs not and hoping for the best.

If someone is going to attempt to hurt me or my family, they will pay for that attempt.

To the op, imo there is time and a place to draw your weapon, looking on from the outside (I know easier said than done), it might have been a little pre mature, again just my opinion. Maybe getting in the car and driving might have been a solution..... However, you are the one who had to make that split second decision and if you feel comfortable with that decision than that is all that matters.

I do not see how you can not justify him drawing his weapon or stating that he was "pre-mature" in drawing his weapon. He was protecting his family and himself from an intoxicated person who had already made threats against him and his property. If you see an agitated person coming at you with a weapon that could cause harm to you, you better draw your weapon.

Good job OP!!! Thank you for your service to our country as well.

A LITTLE MUCH , really

The OP was by himself protecting his propriety and his family , that's besides himself

Are saying that he should have waited for the punk to hit him first , hurt his family , wait till the officers come

Nop , as far I'am concern

Done by the book

Thanks for your service, and thanks for setting the example of responsible gun ownership and carrying. Cool, calm under pressure; your concealed carry training and the training of your military profession is obvious. I'd love to have you at my back any time!

Name calling? You don't "come off" very we'll yourself with the replies like this. I don't know you personally so I'll reserve judgement but perhaps some day you may start to think before you type as so far your replies have been moronic.

I've always said when 99% of the people agree and you continue to take the opposite opinion the odds are you are wrong. Self defense against an armed aggressor. What don't you understand?

There is also no longer a requirement for a permit to carry concealed here. There is no gun registration or licensing.

Welcome to Arizona.

First, Very well done, and I am proud of you. Next, thank you for your service.

As an aside, I would have refrained from posting this. The police let you go, but I guarantee a prosecutor will look at this and posting anything about the incident becomes evidence.

thanks 11Bee, I talked with my brother who is a defense attorney before I posted this and I am sure I am fine. everything I posted is the same that I gave in my statement to the police. Was just advised to leave out anything that may identify the guys.
