I like to tell vegitarians the following:

For every animal you don't eat, I will eat 3.

a few years ago there was a very tragic incident on a greyhound bus here in the prairies. A schizophrenic (sp?) man was off meds and attacked another guy with a machete. and ended up beheading him on the bus among other gruesome things. PETA tried to protest at the victims funeral... yes the VICTIMS funeral... saying that we should not be mourning his death because this is how we treat our domestic animals every day. from that point on any time I hear PETA I'm almost sent into a vomitous rage.
