Good video and enjoyed watching it. I will keep using 5W30 Synthetic in my 2017 ZL1 though since I haven’t had any issues with using it. Thanks for the informative video!

Great video but I don’t daily drive my car so I will stick with my Amsoil signature 0-40, believe it or not it’s way easier to get it than trying to find supercar 0-40 or let alone the 5-50 in Alberta Canada

Amsoil meets or exceeds DexosR, they just refuse to pay for the certification, so you’re good!

Basically an enhanced version of ESP. That's why I've been using it, along with it being Dexos2. And of course the cost and availability. My guess is that GM wants to differentiate its oil from Porsche oil in order to pacify Corvette owners so it asked M1 to change ESP to Supercar so it's not confused with ESPX3. That's why Supercar was created, for Corvette owners primarily.

Same with the Driven oils. They just didn't pay for the cert. Seems for many it just isn't worth it.

Yes, and same with Redline. The point of my video wasn’t to compare oil brands, it was to help clear up some of the recommended oils from GM. Seems it may not have done that either. 😅

The new owner's manuals tell you that the 5W-30 oil is still totally fine (in the LT1) for street use, but they are claiming it has to be dexosR and there are no 5W-30 oils that are certified at that rating. Given that absolutely NO appreciable changes have been introduced into the LT1 motor since we first saw it in the 2016 model year, please explain to me how the more newly built ones require oil certified at a certain level that doesn't even exist? You can't, because they don't. I will continue to run the Kirkland 5W-30 dexos1 oil (Warren Distributing) in my 2SS and not lose one second of sleep over it. Given that GM can't be trusted to not do stupid things like release vehicles with 1LT and LT1 trim level names that are VERY different, use the LT1 moniker for a trim level AND an engine, and other super-confusing things to the general public, I'm not going to sweat something as dumb as them changing the names of their oil certification tiers to generate revenue for them... |

Dexos2 https://360.lubrizol.com/Specifications/GM/GM-dexos2 Dexos1 gen3 (this is for "regular" cars) https://360.lubrizol.com/Specifications/GM/GM-dexos1 Note the limits are tighter for dexos2. DexosR, only info on M1 site, but I'd bet its basically a copy of old ESP (dexos2). M1 reps also admitted to corvette blogger that its basically the same formulation as the old ESP just repackaged. https://www.mobil.com/en/lubricants/...supercar-0w-40 "old" ESP formula, 0w-40 dexos2 specs: https://www.mobil.com/en-us/passenge...-formula-0w-40 "new" ESPx3 0w-40 with porsche approvals: https://www.mobil.com/en/lubricants/...1-esp-x3-0w-40 attached lubrizol comparison tool, also available here: https://online.lubrizol.com/relperftool/pc.html# all that to say....if dexos1gen3 5w30 is good enough for warranty...any of the rest will do...

FollowMyLine - Great video! Thanks for the information!
In the video you mention running 5w-50 only if you drive 3 seasons (spring, summer, fall) and that if you drive winters, you would want to run the 0w-40 in the winter. With that said, it is OK, however, to run 5w-30 (for street use) all year round. Why is 5w-30 ok year round but 5w-50 wouldn't be? I'm definitely not an oil expert, so I'm just trying to understand (and make sense of) all of these nuances with different oil weights & dexos certs, etc.
