No no no. We have to first debate WHEN to first change the oil and whether or not the differential fluid should be changed within the first 500 miles, 1500 miles, or skipped until the first service interval.
THEN we can discussion transmission fluids. |

But 0W-40 ESP Formula wasn't around back then, obviously the GM Engineers have decided that is a much better oil than the older oils...

I believe it -was- available when the first 2016's starting rolling off the line, though. Their oil requirements were the same then as they are now: 0W-40 on the track, 5W-30 on the street. The changed the wording of it and my theory is that it was due to them having to pay out under warranty because it wasn't "clear" to someone that they had to switch to 0W-40 on the track.

That is obvious and beyond the point of the discussion. The problem is people falsely believe 5w30 is no longer a usable lubricant for the LT1, but it is totally usable for the LT1, and has been the manufacturer reccomded oil since 2013.

I am running Amsoil 10W-30, can I still get warranty repairs on my very mildly modded powertrain?
Okay, cringy Friday joke aside, best to just go with the owner's manual. What may have happened was the dealership didn't have the 0W-40 dexos2 oil in stock, because they service few Camaros and Corvettes.

^^^ This. Is 0w-40 Dexos 2 really not available to someone on this forum?

And, yes... There are plenty of situations where the 0W-40 oil isn't readily available at dealerships. They simply are NOT going to stock a product that they don't use regularly. |

Right? You would think that would do it, but standby for someone insisting that their 2017 SS says 5w-30 right in their manual and that's all that matters.
It's like people don't understand that after building tens of thousands of LT1s and looking at the data, engineers have no idea what they are talking about.

The best advice to the Op and others is to use the recommended oil grades listed in the Owners Manual. That’s what I do with my vehicles and have done in 47 years of driving the other cars I have owned in the past.
