I really appreciate the help!
I must not be enrolled or something, as I don't have any of those settings. In the website I've opted out of "Data Sharing" which is the closest thing I can find. I do not see anything called "Smart Driver". I've even googled where to go in the Canada sites, but I do not have the setting listed in the app in the specified locations at all... Kind of confused, but hoping this means mine never got activated for it. It does say I have to opt in on the Chevy Canada site, but how much do I trust that.. |

Agree totally with MT-SS1LE, and I’ve finally decided that my Onstar is finally getting gutted out of my car this year. I don’t trust them or GM at all.

You're going to have to enter your SSN but they already have it anyways.

What an unbelievable day of wasted time talking to people at Onstar, the dealership, and GM connected who know nothing about this. I finally found the setting thanks to Evergreen and toggled it off. Had to look really hard for it. Also opted out of LexisNexis. Tomorrow I will continue the uphill battle and try to get the data they took without my consent off public records.
I attached a screenshot of the phone numbers I will be calling tomorrow along with the screen I found with the feature toggled on. |

I just checked mine. I have a 2022 and live in Maryland. It's under Data / privacy. OnStar Insurance's Driving Program. It's an opt in, check box and accept. I'm going to assume it's turned off. I wonder if different States, have different laws on this ?

Looks like if you have opted out of Smart Driver, as I did a while ago, you are not enrolled in the OnStar Insurance's Driving Program.

Not what I’m seeing on my account. It shows I’m not enrolled for Smart Driver on the My Chevrolet app but I was somehow enrolled in the OnStar Insurance driving program (which I never consented to).

Interesting thread.
I checked the app and website and the smart driver setting is toggled off on both. |

Even if you have "no accidents", they can point to data that shows certain indicators, vs. your real reason for no accidents may just be luck of the draw. Point being that the presence of accidents or not doesn't make one a good or safe driver. I'm not saying it's right, but it's a business and there in it to make money, not to be fair. What is right is somewhere in between. It's like saying that those that smoke should pay more for health care. There's a case to be made for that, but there are also people that are hit with conditions and diseases through no action of their own, simply bad genetics. With decent health care, they can often live full and productive lives, but it's a shit society to hit them with huge premiums for their conditions and situations they can never really get on top of due to those costs. The whole point of insurance IS to "spread it out a bit". So somewhere in there, there's a balance. That's where regulation usually has to come in. So regulating what they can do with your data is one step.

I love how GM makes this "smart driver" bullshit seem like some great benefit for the owner. Get "badges" and "points" like it's some video game. Who gives a crap about that nonsense. The real beneficiary is GM who reaps millions of dollars by selling your private data to sleazy data miners.

There is also the fact that insurance is mandatory, so this isn't a perfectly competitive business scenario. The underlying issues are complex and very much worth discussing, but I'd rather not hijack someone else's thread any further.
