I think that could be the same argument as saying vert vs convertible to some people.

I’ve been showing at car events for 30 years and vert has been a pretty common way to refer to a vehicle with a droptop.

Zebra, it’s just the way some of us gearheads on this forum call a convertible, a Vert! No big deal you know.

I've been showing just a long and even during the decade I was showing my '69 442 Convertible, I never once heard the term. Heard rag top, drop top, going topless, though. Different crowds, I guess.

^^^This for me.

Nothing to do with convertible, but I I am beginning to despise "Let me be perfectly clear" phrase.

Re: Olds & Oldsmobile, perhaps not apples-to-apples because (of course) the company took its name from its founder, Ransom K. Olds. (I *think* that middle initial was a "K", am not gonna look it up...)

I -- being a goofball -- find myself adding letters and enjoy saying "convertibobble"! Mainly because it ticks off the SO.

Eli. Ransom Eli Olds (REO)

Convertibobble is good. Especially if your name is Bob

Personally I never heard the shortened term "Vert" until I joined this forum. I agree with you OP that it sounds tacky. I don't care what people refer to it as, it would never get under my skin or anything, but ya... it sounds lazy and tacky. But... as someone else mentioned, with texting, social media...etc... seems everyone shortens everything.

I have family that when they text me and refer to their spouse the type "R" or "D"... (Richard or Dorothy)... now that is truly just lazy. Especially when you type a text and you type the first couple letters the suggested and frequently used words are selectable. If you are truly just that lazy then just use the damb talk to text feature...

Hold on, let me go out in the garage and ask my Vert if it's feelings have been hurt...

Vette is kind of borderline. It cheapens the brand a little, but it's okay.
