I wonder if AFM will be disabled in sport or track mode. Anyone know?

I've had five Camaros. 4 stick and 1 auto. Currently driving a manual. My 2010 SS has 70k on it. Out of the wrapper it got an intake, exhaust, tune and tires. I've made dozens of passes on a strip (and hundreds of runs elsewhere sshhhsshh)
First, kudos to GM cause I've beaten my car like a red headed step child and nothing has ever gone wrong or broke. Second, I'm fairly consistent with the manual. A lot of my auto friends actually have commented how consistant my runs are. With that said.... I'm getting an auto!!!! Lol. I truly believe that the new Camaro A8 will smoke a manual. The current A6 with 26 less hp and 10 less tq runs basically the same times. Add a tune to the A6 and the M6 and the A6 is quicker. Now level the field and give both the same power and the A6 is that much faster. Now add two more gears and make it an A8. C'mon man. The auto is gonna be a lot quicker. Look at the vettes. The auto 8 is faster. I'll pass you manual drivers while sipping a latte

I'm confident the auto can beat the manual down the line but I'm going with the 6-speed because I just like the feel of going through the gears myself. It enhances my driving experience if you will...
Can someone please explain the downside to AFM and why everyone is excited that it will not be offered in the 6-speed? I see cylinder deactivation and increased gas mileage as a good thing. What am I missing? |

I really hope they removed the AFM valve train for the manual cars.

undecided.......love my M6 Gen 5 but I'll probably test drive both manual and A8 as i've read some good things about it, but would be curious to drive one with it. Also, if it does turn out to be faster than the manual, that would be a big factor. No AFM in the manual is a big plus though as well.

I will take the 8 speed, because 1) its faster, and 2) I have no interest in driving a manual in rush hour traffic. |

I haven't heard any complaints about the a8 from vette guys. My buddy has an a8 stingray and loves it. They are both awesome transmissions.

It seems EvoShift has made a comeback! I'm waiting for the AWD comments to show back up...

Auto for me. Bad knees and city driving a clutch is too much for me.

I'm getting a McLaren or a Ferrari later this year for my 23rd birthday. Clearly they're sports cars but I feel the need to have a manual because of the driving pleasure and satisfaction it gives me. So I'm going to replace my Audi with a manual 6th gen V8 Camaro as my secondary daily driver. (On my second mustang now - a 1965 V8, and my first car was a new 2011 Mustang GT, so I thought I'd give the Camaro a try this time around for a change)
