"Maybe it's because I'm no longer in my 20's, but I have very little interest in what modded cars runs. The simple reason being that ANY car can be made to run ANY speed ... depending on how deep one's pockets are.

That's why I'm only interested in what 100% bone stock "as delivered to the dealer" cars run. Seeing how most owners will never use slicks, never powershift, never tune their car, etc., journals like C&D gives me the info that I want.

And they ran 12.4 with an 11 GT500, 12.7 in a 10 GT 500:
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...t500-road-test

Now those are REAL world numbers. "

I'm almost the exact opposite. I too want to know what a car can do stock but also what can it do modded and how easy a car it is to mod. I haven't left a car completely "stock" in a long time and I'm 54 years old. Even my '07 Taco has aftermarket exhaust and a few mods for improved traction, etc. I'd rather have a car that I can add 50% more horsepower and make handling improvements to my taste than get a maxxed out machine from the dealer.......where everyone I see on the street is driving the same machine......but that's just me. In summary, I want to know what can I get this car to do for me and at what expense vs what can it do off the showroom floor.

PS I'm also not a drag racer where anyone with a right foot and money can go fast......I'm a road track guy.

Neither of these positions make me "better" or "right", it's just how I look at cars.

Well yes of course. The ZL1 has magnetic ride, a PTM traction control system that rivals the Davis control boxes on all the fast ODR cars, and 620+ horsepower, get your head outta the sand!

not attacking, just sayin.
I'll have to go check out svtperformance.....thanks for the info.

edit: it doesn't look like they have a formal thread on times.. broken down to stock or modded cars, and model/year.

As for the rest of your comment.......

I live in Arizona where my home track altitude is 1500 ASL (not accounting for DA) .

I don't drive a Camaro or Mustang......I drive a near stock C6 Z06 Corvette.
I'm on the C6 Z06 Fast List in the bolt-on category....and yet I have no bolt-on's other than a CAI....even the stock tune. I won't bore you with the details as it's not relevent to the two cars we are talking about now, but I think I have the drag racing thing down OK

That being said, I don't believe for one second that countless 2010+ owners have gotten anywhere near 10's with tires...especially on their first tries AND stock to boot.

The best I've seen experienced drivers with stock cars run is upper 11's on drag radials, but that doesn't mean that other owners at different tracks across the Country haven't gone faster.

I can't wait for the new 2013 GT500's to start hitting the track.....I'd love to run one.

I say let them have their crown, I'll take my absurdly overpowered car and be happy about it.

I do have a hard time seeing either the Camaros new platform, or new Mustang platform shedding more than 2-3 hundred pounds Max.

Maybe a 3700 lb mustang/camaro at the lightest.

The 12.2 posted a 1.81 60 foot time which makes me suspect drag radials...sme people would consider it stock with DRs. Just sayin, the average guy doesn't run 10s in a GT500...at least not bone stock. The 12.2 was run by a professional drag racer from Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords....Evan Smith and is probably not representative of what the average GT500 driver could run.

Here is a mag run on a 2010 GT500. stock tires 11.95.

The ZL1 also beat the Boss's time at VIR by a healthy margin. So they have some variety and are not just parading one time. That said, on the strip if the 13 GT500 can hook without breaking it should post some pretty sick times. I'm just happy to be around during this modern sports car war and would be happy to own any of these beasts.

ZL1 = "13.5 seconds at 107 MPH and 13.1 at 113 MPH with the launch control"

Do you consider these "Real world numbers" as well?

Naturally aspirated engines (or smaller-lighter engines with engine-weight-conscious boost), with weight distribution closer to 50/50 and therefore more of an emphasis on a "balanced" driving experience, is where the Market AND Manufacturers should/will be headed. And, with those better-balanced chassis, performance based on weight-to-power will be even better...in ALL disciplines...as will be the required mpg.

What's being built now, ZL1 vs. GT500, will become as archaic as Street Hemi GTXs vs. Super Cobra Jet Torinos vs. SS 454 Chevelles...imvho...and, likely, just as "beatable"...STOCK for STOCK for STOCK.

And THAT is a circumstance I personally look forward to...after all, if GM can build a 3900 lb. Commodore into a ZL1 (figuratively), just imagine what should happen with a 3500 lb. Alpha with near-50/50, 500hp Camaro with "MRC-4"...that gets 30 mpg, hiway...!!!

ZL1 vs. GT500? Last of a breed...get 'em while you can. But be ready to "pass the crown"!
Come on now. Don't soften up your stance now that the GT500 is being tested by mags as I type. Keep the faith.
