I think you could be right. It is me holding the car back. Yes as mentioned above I tried launch control 4 times before giving up. On my best run I launched at a higher rpm than LC would allow. I might just try dumping the clutch with LC next time to see if the tires will hold. There is a M6 bolton 5.0 just dumping the clutch @ 5-6K pulling 1.5 60's, running 11.5s and getting some air on the drivers side tire.

Several good Mustang Manual drivers have offer to show me how it's done. But for obvious reasons with my car history I will not let them.

Which brings me to a question. Do you have to be driving your own car to post a fast time?

Well it would still be your car. I was just kidding but I am sure it has been done. Hoping you get your race car sorted. Will you be competing with it?

It's great to have a regular racing buddy, regardless of what he drives. I always like to spend some time talking to the other drivers and looking over the other cars in the paddock when I go to the drag strip (or any other motorsports event). I usually stand along the fence when I get there, watching the first drivers out on the track to judge track conditions. While I'm there I talk to other drivers and spectators. Between track sessions I do the same thing. There are so many different kinds of people, all with a passion for motorsports, so we all have something in common.

You're right about the socializing. That's a big part of track day for me too. I enjoy checking out what others are doing to their cars to make them go faster or look better. Most of them are eager to talk about their cars and often have good info to share, whether they're driving a Hellcat, Mustang, Camaro, or Nissan. Although I don't have a lot of drag strip experience, I sometimes share what I've learned too.

I sometimes have a support crew, consisting of my eldest daughter and her kids. She drives my truck with the gas cans, air, and tools. Her eldest son usually shoots the spectator videos with my Nikon D600 and she roots for me on every pass (I can hear her in the videos). Now that I'm getting DRs, I'm going to need that support truck to carry them to the track. I really don't want to drive on them 50 miles each way to the track.

Although I do have a few buddies that I see whenever I go to the track, I don't have a regular racing buddy like you. Like a workout buddy, they tend to keep you motivated and the whole experience is much more enjoyable overall.

Good luck at the track!

Yea I'll bracket race it on motor. And I'll get the high 8-low 9 second slip on the nitrous. Just to say I did it in this car. Or use the nitrous for when forum warriors start talking sh!t. I'm done messing around with the "go to the track and tune" method that Absolute auto has been using. We're dyno tuning tomorrow morning at a different shop. So I should see a big gain in ET and MPH next time out. If I'm blowing thru the converter on launch. It'll be obvious on the dyno. I think the trick with your car is to just gotta drive it like you hate it. Launch it hard. Power shift. Lower the air down in those DRs to 15psi. And cross your fingers you don't snap an axle. Your car has plenty of MPH for a mid to low 11 second pass. Your one of the Faster NA guys there. You just gotta dig the spurs in.

It is cool to have a pit crew you can boss around. The kids I mean not your daughter. My drag racing buddy has overwhelmed me by building 3 10 second cars to my mid 11s low 12s efforts. At least they are all manuals.

So I get my best run of 2017, hi 11s, and on the same night so does he with mid 10s. Bassturd!

Technically, I would say no. The list is for the car, and it doesn't say OP must be the driver...I'm sure some on the lists may have had someone else driving. I know for a FACT one of the guys on the S197 forum had someone else drive for him, as I was there when he did it. I just don't think he said anything, so no harm no foul lol.

Agreed.

Try NLS, it may help you at first....and as for the axles, if you break one, just get some beefy aftermarket ones. With your mods and tire, at some point on a sticky track you are bound to pop one.

I hope things go smooth for you.

I know you can drive my car faster than me. But you know what happened the last time I let a Mustang driver in a fast Camaro. LOL

I thought so. But if that happened to me I would not post. I have some standards.

I will try a fast clutch release LC run tonight. And as Gossip Squirrel said I do need to lower my tire pressure. With the lousy for Atco DA tonight I will need all out to get back into the 11s.

I am undecided about that, wouldn't it be cheaper to replace a stock axle with another rather than rebuild or replace the diff? At least then though I could get my 4.10s with another diff.

I went to Atco last night.

It was a strange night as rain was predicted but Atco opened anyway. So for a Friday night the place was empty. I could have had ten runs easy, but I decided to pace myself and got three runs in trying to make each count.

Pat was there as usual and early there was a newish 911 Turbo there looking to show off his car against the plebians. I am not saying this guy was a jerk, but the last 911 Turbo guy who showed up was telling some us old farts we should be home in an easy chair letting the big boys play at the track. He ticked Steve off, so I do not think he was kidding. And Steve is tougher than nails. I did not meet that Porshe guy though. Well he raced in the Street Wars and Pat sent him home crying in his $8,000 optional leather seats.

Pat spotted tonight's Porshe in the pit area and as soon as he moved into the staging lanes Pat jumped in his stock looking Mustang and arranged a run with him by juggling positions. I just knew he would do that. LOL.

So with his posse watching Pat made his turbo move. He did a quick burnout and rushed up to the lights fully staged. Naturally the Porshe took the bait and followed Pat's lead. The guy must have realized he has been had and left over 3 tenths early! Well that was not a good move as he could not build enough boost in that amount of time. Pat seeing him leave also redlighted but his redlight was something like -.017. Well within reason. Of course Pat ran him down with 10.6 to the Porsches 11.3. The Porsche never made it back to the pits, he went home. LOL

Also Gossip Squirrels post Fox Body track Mustang was running better and it sounded awesome. But it was having a weird problem where it would leave hard then stumble and then run hard down the 1/4. I hope he can get that sorted. The build has been forever. It will be a fast car. And compared to most street cars it already is.

As for me as promised, I did my first run in launch control mode. I pretty much dumped the clutch and the tires held. I ran a 12.101@117.72 with a 1.924 60'. Not bad and one of my better 60's with the NT555Rs.

But to back up I made two other changes. Last week I lowered my standard tire pressure a little under my standard low 20s. I did this because I did not want to fool around with putting air in my tires when I leave. Pat kept bugging me about this, and so have others like Gossip Squirrel, but sometimes my head is very hard. Finally it sinks in, you can drive home with 18 pounds of air in your tires. Just take it easy. After finally lowering my TP on Tuesday I ran my fastest time ever in this SS and by far the best 60'.

So now that the light bulb is on in my head this is my new standard. And I also dredged up something else I already knew which is without a line lock you burn out in 2nd gear not first to put some heat into those tires. Doh! But that LC run felt like the RPM was too low. So on my next two runs I did not use LC.

For these runs I was running a very clean blue LS2 cammed GTO with LTs which runs 12.0s/high 11s. On the first run I messed up a little but ran a 12.211@117.26 to his 12.844@112.39. He messed up worse and spun his tires. I felt a little bad about this because I placed my car in the front of the staging lanes when it was empty in the right lane. I knew it was his favorite. He was in the front of the street cars as usual. He likes the front so his only move was to take the left lane hen he returned back to the staging lanes. I guess this was a Pat move.

So on the next lineup I took the left lane, which that night looked like the lane with less prep. I just needed to concentrate on a good run taking advantage of whatever traction there was. So on our last run my RT was a drowsey .335 to his very good as usual .066. He was on his game in his comfortable lane. My launch felt good, but you never know until you see the slip. He jumped out ahead with a big lead. I though oh crap he has me. But I started reeling him in. I did not think I would have enough room but on the big end the MSD was taking over. I beat him by .0251 fender to fender, a really fun run. Even better I ran a 11.824@118.48 with ta 1.829 60'. My best run ever. See below. I think I will post this run. Not bad for a M6 SS with no E85 yet.

My car is full weight and it weighed 3,675 pounds with a little less than 1/4 tank of gas on the Atco scale. The DA was - 351 says Drag Times (maybe, I always get this wrong).

Oh Snap !!!!

Great pass, that looks more like the slip you should be seeing regularly...I'm stoked for you. Sitting here sipping my coffee and reading that Atco was dead (and negative DA) was like a punch in the gut, I hate missing days like that.

You do know that their is an air tank there and you can pump up before you leave right ??

Mid 11's on e85 soon, no more low hanging fruit for you my friend.... you and Pat will both be jostling for bigger prey..lol.
