How does the Large volume of the intercooler affect boost delay?
I understand it will be capable of 1500? would it help to have it sized smaller to build boost quicker? Also, painting it black will help radiate heat away, not a huge amount, I believe I saw it tested somewhere with results of 2-3 F

Paint is an insulator and not recommended. Color has no bearing on heat dissipation, although darker colors can absorb more of the suns energy vs lighter colors. However there are special high tech coatings available that can improve heat transfer. Ted.

get to start converting the muffler/downpipe into dual mode. Left side for silence, right side for hellraising
tuner is backed up till next week so waiting on tune... Should be final tune to be sent out with the kit though so that is good news. |

got full boost hitting 3000-3500rpm today (8lbs) very impressive for rear mount.
Couple little quirks worked out and then decided to change to a different boost controller so trying to figure its quirks now.... Turbosmart Dual Stage Manual Boost Controller... Right now I have a 4lb spring in the wastegate for the turbo and 4lb in the wastegate for the spool valve. With that said our old manual boost controller would hold those numbers all day long when fully turned down so no issues there. But now with this other boost controller fully turned down 8lbs is lowest boost it will hit. I'm thinking it is the ball/spring they have in the boost gate pre boost controller. I'm thinking that if I cut a few coils off the spring or if I can find a smaller spring that it will lower this. I don't want to do away with the spring/ball in the boost gate because doing so will reduce how fast the turbo ramps up and hits full boost and right now getting boost just passing people on the freeway in 6th at 1500rpm is really nice much less full boost before 3500.... I sent turbosmart a email and hoping for a speedy response. Hoping the car can be redynoed on Monday because Tuesday I have to be back at my day job. The dual stage exhaust is working out great also. However I'm not happy with the tip setup I have at the moment. With my current configuration there isn't room to pull off a dual tip on the passanger side so it is currently, dual 3" tip driver side, single 4" passanger side... Fixes for this go as so: Build a new exhaust from the turbo back, use a t off the turbine housing so I have room to pull a 90 off to the muffler section then a 2nd 90 to go to the cutout. This will move the cutout back about 6" giving room for me to do a ypipe and dual tip. Alot more work and alot more material costs though..... Or more likely answer: Find a different oval 4" muffler with similar sizing with a single 4" in and out. Do tips out the rear. I'll likely do a nice oval tip to fill in the bumper tip cutouts better. Less work, less material, = not having to charge so much for it.... |

found the culprit, was what I thought it was...
http://www.turbosmartusa.com/technic...ntroller-tech/ I don't want to do away with it though because it does aid in ramping the boost up much faster... I'll try cutting coils until boost holds just 1-1.5lbs over wg. This way I get ramp up asap but still close to wg setting |

So just pulled the spring and ball on that t and everything is rock and roll just waiting for a good tune which will hopefully happen monday when I don't have my day job to attend to.
Messing around with the car. On the freeway, 6th gear, punch it from 2000rpm, 5lbs of boost (low boost) at 2700rpm zone very happy with that sort of response now. Might do some experiments for personal knowledge next month though. The 96mm turbine housing only comes in 1.32 ar, I would like to experiment with the 1.10 ar housinge but that is for the smaller 88mm wheel. So plan is Get smaller 1.1 ar housing, machine it out to the 96mm wheel, chop off the crappy marmon flange and set it up with a standard 4" vband. Also the turbo is "internally" gated now, we have cleaned up and simplified the wastgate but mounting it straight to the turbine housing. With a single 38mm wastegate we can hold 4lbs of boost perfectly stable so there is no need for a larger wastegate adding more cost to the kit. When I get the new turbine housing I'll also get everything to do the final for production muffler section with cutout. Our proof of concept has worked very well and we are happy with it. Now just some refinements for the bling factor and if we can knock even more off that lag while keeping top end power in check we will. |

customer ended up just deciding to go with the filter on the blower so that is how it ended up.
Can still see the finished product here though that came out pretty nice Custom charge pipes and intercooler. |

Do you have any dyno graphs? Did you post them already, and I missed them?

web guy is going to update our site with a blog so I can post up everything there.
Also just ordered some 305 45 17's MT ET Street R tires for next weekends attempt at a low 10. Meth kit will be getting installed this weekend as long as it makes it in on time (shipped yesterday). Retune will be next week. Likely going to use c16 race gas so we can get every last horse out of the stock fuel system and then supplement the afs with the meth to get another 1-2 lbs boost. Tuner thinks we will get an extra 50-80whp out of stock fuel system with just the race gas and not touching afs just adding timing. Have our awesome new intro video ready to go, now just need some nice action videos to put together something good. Next weekend will be the first real debut for the car as long as all stays going well so lets aim for good things. Even with full boost coming so hard and fast now I am thinking I'll drop the entire exhaust and fully wrap it for just that last little be it extra. After all I have 300ft of lava header wrap just chilling on top the shop fridge... |
