The 2003 CTS sucked compared to the 2008 model. The 1995 Cavalier REALLY sucked compared to the 2005 Cobalt which REALLY sucked compared to the 2011 Cruze. And yes, I would go as far as to say that the 5th gen will suck when compared to the 6th gen. That's just what the name of the game in this industry is. If your new product isn't as good or better than the old one, you'll get left behind very quickly.

The 2008 Malibu was great compared to the 2004 model. The 2008 CTS was amazing compared to the 2003 model. The 2011 Cruze was leaps ahead of the 2005 Cobalt which was a HUGE improvement over the 1995 Cavalier. And yes, I would go as far as to say that the 6th gen will be A LOT better than the 5th gen. See how much better that sounds?

I do however believe that the Z28 will go on to become a design classic over time. The base SS/V6 don't look hot enough compared with the Z28 which looks closer to the Transformers prototype than the higher and more sedate looking SS/V6. A lowered stance makes the Camaro look awesome, but the regular height makes the car look too much like a Chrysler 300 due to the high sidewalls (and the Chrysler 300 sure looks dated now right?). |

. You can tell they're early models, but their age doesn't make the car look bad at all.

This generation Camaro was, in fact, a step forward...by building on the heritage of Camaro. It was not a throwback, minus some cues from past Camaros. Camaro still means something...and it's up to each individual to give it meaning...but and old French/English dictionary says it means "friend, pal, or comrade." If an SS Camaro is ever equipped with a V6...you can be darn sure it NEEDED to be done to ensure the Camaro's survival as a nameplate in light of more stringent emissions and fuel economy standards. If it's ever equipped with a V6, chances are it'll still be able to melt your face off (V6 doesn't mean less performance, anymore). Finally...if there's a V6 SS...who's to say there won't be another model in the lineup that has a V8? ![]() To each his own, but I'd request you give the idea a chance before getting angry over nothing. |

As for the Gen1 cars - there's no comparison - they were the originals. The Gen5 may or may not achieve "legendary" status because as many have praised it when it FIRST came out, as many have also criticized it after that. Legendary cars usually don't have such inconsistency in judgment. Take the recent Ford Thunderbird for example: http://www.canadiandriver.com/2002/0...hunderbird.htm Note the emotional excitement of the reviewer despite the ergonomic short-comings of the car? Sound familiar? So where is the T-Bird now? I bet that the inconsistency of the car's reviews killed it. Now whilst Camaro buyers tend to be ignoring the recent reviews of the Camaro and are still buying the Camaro in droves, nevertheless inconsistency of reviews can kill the likability of a car once the newer models comes along. Based on comments from people who have seen the Gen6 - I'm willing to bet that the Gen6 is the perfect Camaro - and if that's the case, you WILL forget the gen5 - that's just the way it goes. |

Like I said earlier...each Camaro was successively better in many ways than its predecessor. But none have been forgotten...that's one of the traits of an American Icon. No matter what they do with the sixth gen...people LOVE this car. There's no disputing that...regardless of what a few toilet-paper rolls have to say about it. From the reaction at the concept unveiling to the stares on the street, even now after 2 years of production the cars design is absolutely timeless. Besides, this was the generation that ushered the Camaro back to life, and it will never be forgotten, if only for that reason. |
