And like i said pretty much all oils can resist heat breakdown "well enough" but if i can find oil that if more resistant to heat breakdown even if maybe just changing oil weight helps out for summer intervals.
I do changes every 3000 miles like clockwork and even with daily driving im putting about 4000-5000 miles a year on the car.
Post shutdown and in traffic heat soak from the road is the bigger concern for me. Even at 3000 mile intervals I'm seeing thinned out black oil. And a noticeable reduction in engine vibrations after i change the oil.
It can get pretty hot here in the summer too. I was in New Orleans a couple years ago in July and I was expecting it to feel like hell down there. It was actually cooler than PA that week I was there haha.

If you’re that worried about it, you can do what some track guys do and switch to 5W-50 Mobil one super car oil. Not sure how cold it gets where you are but I wouldn’t use this oil if you’re going to see cold starts under 50-60 degrees in your winters. I still think you’re worried about a problem that does not exist. These cars are built to withstand 100 degree track days on the 0w-40 oil. Now if you’re still using your cars (2017) factory fill of 5W-30 then I think you made a strong argument for switching to the updated 0W-40 factory fill.

Im currently running 5w30, since winter is over here im probably going to switch to 10w40 and see how it does. No additives and just see how the difference weight does.

Easily won the best oil temps...
Another Oil Geek Guy episode, Data Deep Dive with Chip Hewette, recently retired from Afton Chemical, is joining us to provide expert data analysis insights gained from decades of working at one of the 4 major additive suppliers. Chip has also been data mining the SPEEDiagnostix database, and he has some interesting findings to share.

This video is one of the best defacto oil analysis presentations to learn what to look for in oil.

These guys analyze back to back many of the important oil specifications in these oils:
  • Driven LS
  • Amsoil Signature Series
  • Pennzoil Ultra Platinum
  • Mobil 1 Truck and SUV
  • HP Lubricants No VII
  • Ravenol DXG
  • Liquimoly Molygen
  • Redline Full Synthetic

I asked Lake Speed Jr. to create a video on the effects of oil temperature, How hot is too hot.

what a great set of videos. that answered a lot of the questions i had and puts my mind at ease. its funny that i was thinking today i might be dealing with fuel contamination from lack of temperature because my 7min drive to work is mostly below operating temperature.
thanks for that post

So I've gone down this rabbit hole you guys have sent me down with oil geek. Im going to run 5w30 but probably change it every 2000 miles or try and plan a good hour drive every couple of weeks to try and evaporate moisture and fuel that may be collected in the oil sump.

Next oil change send a sample off to Blackstone. Your current oil and maintenance regimen might be just fine.
