Putnam is a blast. Very small paddock area though.

Being in eastern wisconsin the tracks i could drive to are the same as yours. I could add Brainerd up in MN to the list i guess.

I have driven to I29 Speedway in Iowa and rented that out for a day as well.

I might be there for that. Depends on some other car events. BINGE has a track weekend March 7-8, and with their Early Bird Code (EARLY26) you get 20% off. That makes it $480 for the whole weekend (10 sessions) or $300 for one day. That code is only good through tomorrow (1/31), so jump on it if you want to go.

From where I am, I've driven to/from

Lime Rock
Thompson Speedway
Palmer
New Hampshire Motor Speedway

The first 3 are all within 1.5 hours. New Hampshire is 3.5 hours and while I did it, I didn't feel good about it, thinking about how I would have gotten home if I had an issue with the car. Also, it was a long ride with the car shaking from other people's rubber on the tires/wheels.

I drove to/from for a while, but I trailer now, even to the local tracks. Much more piece of mind.

I guess it's a function of how willing you are to drive longer distances.

My buddy and I have established a pattern where we do 3 or 4 trips a year to "local" tracks within a 3 hour drive (VIR or CMP in our case, +/- Charlotte or Dominion), plus 1 "bucket list track" per year that's a considerably longer drive (Road Atlanta, Watkins, Barber, maybe Summit Point"). This provides a nice balance without consuming too many vacation days or travel "burn-out."

But I have my limits like anyone else. We were talking about going to Sebring until I looked at the drive time and decided it was just too long. I think I'm drawing the line at 9-10 hrs total, one-way. These long trips can take up to 2 days drive on the way out (the 2nd day being considerably shorter so as to allow for arrival and set-up at the track paddock, including changing wheels), and mostly 1 day drive on the way back (drive a couple of hours after leaving the track, with most of drive home remaining for the following day.

I've driven up and down the East coast during my motorcycle days. But within a reasonable distance I have:

Monticello (30 minutes away!!!)
New Jersey Motorsports Park
Pocono Raceway
Lime Rock
Thompson Speedway
Palmer
New Hampshire Motor Speedway
Summit Point Raceway
Watkins Glen

Under 5 hours for me are:

Pocono 1.2 hours
NJMP 1.5 hours
Lime Rock 3.5 hours
Watkins Glen 4.5 hours

There might be more I haven’t looked into such as Palmer and the other race track by the finger lakes.

If I still have my car by the time track season starts I will drive/trailer to Road America and VIR this year.

Yea it is a nice track. Very open. Wish I could afford the "membership". Ive driven my old 2018 1LE there, I haven't had my current ZL1 out there yet.

From the FL panhandle, we have gone to COTA (that took a while), Barber, Road Atlanta, and NOLA. We are going to try to do Sebring this year. (COTA will be 2X for us this year so another long drive may not be in the cards)

Barber is the closest to us for the moment. Hopefully the group trying to put a track in my AO is successful and sometime in the near future I can drive 25 minutes and be on track.

Looking to go to Barber for the first time sometime soon, but my track buddy seems a bit resistant. How much do you like Barber when compared to tracks like Road Atlanta (we've been there before and know it well)?

It’s a great track and facility. A bit of elevation change (nothing like RA however), and some corner combinations that are loads of fun IF you nail them. The ground are impeccably maintained. Loads of room in the paddock area(s), easy to maneuver a truck and trailer, nice bathroom/shower facilities as well. Theres a fairly new Hampton inn just outside the entrance to the track (there is another new hotel under construction next door) and a giant Buc-ee’s about 30 seconds from the hotel. I go in the AM for coffee, (I always grab an extra cup for the gate guard), and fuel if I need some. Birmingham has some great restaurants, most about a 10-20 min drive from the Barber exit.

Plus, it’s loads of fun watching the Indy car race and saying “yeah, I’ve BTDT”.

In short, y’all should definitely do it.
