Transport Mode is really meant for a couple of -weeks- while it's on the train / truck while winter storage is typically months-long. I did it a few years ago before I had the garage with power and I used a storage place... It held up a little longer that way, but it will wasn't enough to survive the whole winter.

Modern compounds and tire design/build have really made flat spotting something that's not at all common any more. Most of us have cars with wide treads and low profile combined with softer compounds that are better for grip. These are all the key things that make a tire susceptible to developing flat spots from sitting. However...

The softer compound ALSO makes them a great candidate to simply go right back to being properly round as you drive the car and they warm up. A little prevention (over-inflate before storage) combined with going easy on them once you put the car back on the road (and setting the inflation pressure correctly right away as well) so they can warm up a little and return to their correct shape will almost always get you back where you need to be. If any spots remain after that, there's likely a bigger issue with the tire anyhow.

I never fully understood removing the battery, but to each his own.

I just hook-up a tender under the hood and never look back.

I also use stabilizer because modern ethanol gas attracts moisture.

If you do decide to run the car, make sure it goes on a full ride and gets the oil up to operating temp.

Thank you all for your response. I topped off the tank with fuel stabilizer and drove it for a bit, filled the tires to max psi, has a fresh oil change, washed the car, and removed the battery. I also sealed the concrete floor to avoid any moisture damage. (For anyone else that is removing the battery for winter storage) I connected a string to the manual trunk latch inside the trunk lid and ran it into the cab. That way there i can just pull the string without having to crawl into the trunk to gain access to re-install the battery in the spring. As far as starting the car up once in a while, i agree this is doing more harm than good if your not actually driving the car and getting it up to operating temperature. Also with all the de-icer and salt they put on the roads i want to avoid driving it until spring time at all costs. I'm still open to hearing everyone's opinion on any bad effects of keeping the battery disconnected for a long period of time, as using a maintainer is not an option for me. Thanks again.

I get the sense that most folks pulling the battery out are doing so because there isn't way to keep it on a tender where the car is being stored.

I get that, but ideally the battery should still be maintained even on the bench. It's not like it wont lose voltage after 5 months just because it's out of the car.

True, but it will lose far less at least being disconnected (even without completely removing it from the car) because the electronics in these vehicles draw a lot of energy when just parked...

Its Christmas Eve today
Just wanted to show you notherners what you're missing.
For the most part, canaro hibernation season in Texas starts in February and ends around the end of February.

We've got the same forecast in the Austin area. May hit 80 tomorrow.

Only thing I would caution with pulling the battery out for a period of time is that if your inspection is due when you get the car back out of storage, you will have to run it 50-75 miles before it registers everything for emissions test if you have such a thing in your state like we do in New York.
I found out the hard way on the 2015 the first year I stored it. The inspection ran out during storage time, so I setup an appointment for when I got it out and went to the shop to get it inspected, and nothing registered on the emissions test, so it failed. I spent the next hour and a half driving around to pass the emissions test and had to pay the extra $21 for a failed inspection.

LOL

It is sad to not be able to drive it. It's hovering around 30-40 degrees here.. Looking like some warmer days in January coming up, might be able to at least take it for a short drive to stretch its legs. But I want to drive it noooooow!

I usually pack mine up around Thanksgiving.

So far we've had about a foot in December and it's been damn cold. Plenty of days we've struggled to reach freezing.

I always strive for the 2nd or 3rd week of March, so long as we've had some good rain to wash the roads off. I can't imagine waiting until the end of May like Nytmare lol.

Just a heads up, winter storage does include rodent prevention. Keep your harnesses safe this time of year.
