So WGI is incredible. First, that area is crazy beautiful. Especially with the fall foliage.
But the track stuff. That place is a ton of fun but pretty intimidating at the same time. Made me feel like it was my first time on a track at times. But it was definitely a positive weekend. It rained a bit each day and was cold but there was still some good dry sessions. Ive done track days in the rain, but the cold rain is where I draw the line. If its warm and rainy ill run. Masstuning is a great group. Love running with them when they come to NJMP. Did not go flat through the Ss, I tried, maybe on a warmer day I would be confident enough to use more throttle. Love the bus stop section. Improved a lot in there even with worse track conditions. The entire track was so thrilling. The walls add a nice level of peril that makes things fun. I really wish I was closer and could go more often. I definitely think I will be back at some point next year. Day 1 Session 1: Cold and dry. Exploring the track. Finding all the little things pointed out in onboard ive watched Session 2: my fastest of the whole weekend. Cold, dry, and sunny. Started to push a bit and was getting really comfortable. Session 3: Rained a lot, was cold. So I kept it parked. Session 4: Still wet but done raining, went out to work on driving in less ideal conditions Day 2: Session 1: Still wet from morning rain just feeling the conditions out Session 2: Rode with an instructor, cold, sunny and dry. Picked up a lot of advice from the instructor. Was a very positive session. Session 3: Got colder and cloudy. Couldnt replicate pace from previous session. Could also feel a bit of marbles on my tires and couldnt seem to get them off. (prob just an excuse) Session 4: Hit that point where I usually tell myself thats its been a great weekend but lets go home lol. Was pretty exhausted at that point. Did a little more than half the session. Felt very happy about the weekend so I parked it and packed up. My best was a 2:20.87 so not quick at all, but I feel really good with that based on it being my first time. And also with how the conditions were Loved the whole weekend. Cant wait to go back |

Sounds like you had a great time and got a lot out of the weekend.
Rain doesn't make for good lap times, but good you got the opportunity to run a bit in wet conditions. What tires were you running?

For my session 4 of day 2 I only went out for 10 mins. I also “hit that point” where I realized it was time to stop. Had I not picked up the marbles I think I would have been able to stay out but it really was killing my grip and I was getting exhausted trying to manage that. Can’t wait to go back!

The SC3's don't like rain or cold, especially not both at the same time.

I've done quite a few HPDE event and raced a number of times at the Glen. My first event there I had an instructor who was from the area and it was his home track. Spending two days with him showing me the track and line was priceless. There are so many subtle things about that track that take a lot of experience to figure out.
If you can get an instructor that really knows the track it's well worth it. |
