I will double check my data logs to make sure I remember correctly what I'm saying. Actually, radz28, you have my data logs from the day took it to the track. You could probably see that and more if you still have them?

Edit: I looked at one of the in cabin videos I posted. It seems like I shifted @6800+from 4th to 5th, and I actually do shift into 6th when I originally thought I didn't. I'll look at my other data logs and see what the highest RPM I hit is and report back if it creeps into the 7000+ range.

If Katech last tuned it, I wouldn't think they pushed it past 6800-7000 on stock cam and valvetrain.

Yeah. I stretched it out a couple hundred RPMs more with the larger upper, but pulled it back to stock with the smaller ones. I must be on the right track.

I'll be diving into all of that in the future for sure. We don't even have the OS for AFM lifters, but they stuck them in the A10s, but not M6s (I believe). I think it was only the M6 cars, and LT5s with non-AFM lifters and crap. Better springs and pushrods are on the list, too (and ported heads and oil pump, lol...). I feel like that will keep me happy as long as I can run E'.

The auto-shifts seem to come in just before 6500 on the latest logs. Earlier logs, show they're a good bit higher, but those were initial TCM tuning from them I bet. Your race logs look pretty good, and maybe even a little low, but nice and safe.

Can confirm it was in every LT4, including my M6. I pulled them out myself. It was only the Caddy LT4.5 and the LT5 that got 8 standard lifters.

thanks radz28. I was going off the in car video on the run where I red lighted. I notice with the trans tune they did, manual mode with automatic shifting. They have the TCM quick shift between 2nd to 3rd, like really quick actually. That's why I probably thought I didn't hit 6th gear in the 1/4 mile, as the shift between 2 & 3 is so darn quick I couldn't really notice it (it shifts at a lower RPM range as well) Then the rest of the gears seem to wined out as you'd expect. But wow! when this baby shifts, you freak'n KNOW it shifts!

Now I'm totally confused.....you used manual mode into automatic shifting at the quarter mile? I use manual mode with automatic shifting roll racing, I didn't know it was feasible to use the same manual to auto mode setup on the 1/4 mile.

Edit: and i'm not asking this in a negative or rude manner so you can keep your gloves on.....(can't believe i need to add this disclaimer lol)

clg82: Yeah it works GREAT! for the drag strip, it's really good and consistent. Prior to this setup, I tried manual shifting a few times on the street trying to use my Draggy. But, I was inconsistent constantly. Meaning, I'd accidently hit rev limiter or I'd short shift by accident etc. But now, I just put the shifter in the manual mode position, car starts off in 1st and then it just automatically rips through the gears like a pro! I really like the way my TCM Tune is setup!

What's the difference between doing that and leaving it in drive? Did they tune the manual mode to have different shift points than drive?

The difference is you don't have to remember to slap the shifter back over to drive if launching from second gear in manual mode. It keeps the shift timing more consistent.

I have been tuning manual mode to auto upshift @ WOT only for years. It also works well for roll racing.

I get the slap back to drive, and it's use for roll racing i've used that plenty.

Are you sure it's possible to start out in second gear?

You're not able to launch in second gear from a dead stop at a 1/4 mile track are you? I didn't think that was possible.

You sure can. That's how all the big power guys do it.

In a 10 speed auto? I’m gonna have to try this tomorrow, I’ve never even thought about that for launching at the drag strip!!! I’ve only known the roll racing “hack” i guess you’d call if for the TCM and that part of the tune!!!

Ok well I just started my car since i knew this would bug me lol, put it in drive, then into manual mode and tried to upshift from a standstill and all it does is blink “m1”, so did the tuner omit this setting for me? I’m guessing he did, as i have the “quick shift roll racing” enabled, but not the stand still launch in 2nd. Am I missing something? If not then where should I have my tuner change that in the TCM?

Yes, you have to force it in the TUTD settings in the tune.
