Mine stays plugged in 24/7 but I also disconnect battery when parked. Car is weekend warrior that stays in storage. I figure keeping it in V8 will at least help. It’s been plugged in 7k miles. Works good. This is temporary until I figure out what I’m doing with this car so I can get it tuned. Having a difficult time deciding on mods lol

They have the same AFM lifter hardware. These lifters never activate on M6 cars, but they are the same failure prone parts, and yes, it's possible for them to fail even with 0 activations.

The only true way to eliminate any risk of lifter failure is to physically remove the AFM actuators, and replace the cam an all the lifters with a non-AFM kit. If you can do it yourself it’s less than $2k but to have a shop do it it might run you $5k. I’m seriously considering doing it because I don’t ever plan on ever getting rid of my Camaro….. last year of any V8 coupe with a real manual transmission, at least from GM.

When GM changed the recommended lt1 oil from 5w-30 to 0w-40 does anyone think afm problems had anything to do with that?

Probably the issue is people doing 10k oil changes.

Yep. I still find it shocking that people would go this long between oil changes. I don't care what brand of oil or what your oil analysis says, it's crazy. The manufacturer's only changed to these extended intervals for two reasons: EPA mandates, and to create the illusion of "cheaper" maintenance for the owner. I'll never go more than 5K on an oil change, oil is pretty cheap compared to engine work.

I'm the opposite.. I could probably extend my ~3100 Mile oil change interval. It's just easy to keep track of to just do it at the 5000KM mark on the odometer (I do with all my vehicles, even my shitty Ford Ranger).
