Best part is they had the car for 6 months and caused even more damage. Once done we put a paint mil reader on it and it was at 15-18 mil thick (should be like 4.5-5.5) The painter just kept respraying over and over never sanding or prepping! Also when they put the door back on the bolts holding the hinges to the pillar could be loosened by hand. Luckily I spoke to my insurance and they sent out their inspector and he totaled it out. I made $15k on the loss so I got a ‘24 ZL1.
TF! The insurance company totaled it out because of a bad respray job?!? No wonder our premiums across the nation are through the roof!!

I agree. The base color is too light. I don't think blending could've saved this based on the starting point.

Way more than just bad paint. They damaged glass when disassembling. Broke the rear bumper brackets when removing. New bumper would have to be ordered and painted. To make the paint correct they would have had to spray 3/4 of the car to fix all the screwed up attempts to blend etc. They broke the wiring harness connectors when removing the door panel. Had to go to dealer for a new wiring harness to run all the memory functions. Door was put back on not aligned so it chipped the door and inside of fender 3 times causing repaint. In the end we took to another shop and to fix everything was going to be another $17k. Insurance was already on to it for $14k. Looking at the repairs from a safety standpoint the investigator and inspector did not want to chance it. I have USAA. My dad actually used to be their head SIU Investigator. Let’s just say that shop which is a well know shop is no longer an approved shop for USAA.

That's good to here that USAA stood behind their recommended shop. It's frustrating dealing with the insurance and body shop collusion. When my car got hit I had just moved and didn't have any body shops I trusted, so I reluctantly used my insurances (Nationwide) recommended shop, thinking at least I would have leverage where I could complain back to Nationwide. It didn't do me much good though and I finally got my money back (and not even the full original amount) after the shop that painted and fixed the wheel damage couldn't paint the wheels without the paint peeling even after 4 tries.

That was around 2018 or so and the side the recommended body shop did the repairs on was chipping and rusting at the fenderwell as well as the Bondo chipping off from the metal as well. There was also exposed deep scratches in multiple places that had gotten worse over time from shrinkage at the corners of the rear side window where they didn't finish sand with a 320+ grit.

I ended up repainting it myself. I still have more work to do though and more corrections I need to make but one of the hardest things when doing paint and body yourself is trying to get a sufficient color match since I have to rely on paint shops and they just don't care to get you the right color paint unless you are a big body shop buying a lot of it.

OMG, find a new body shop... First, tell them FU, get it out of there...

I grew up working in a body shop, moved 2,000 miles away from my family's body shop, wife's car got hit by a "flying piece of road debris" on the lower passenger door... Was super skeptical because of all the sh!t I have read regarding body shop work in our area... I have to say, this place in Escondido, CA knocked it out of the park, can't even tell anything happened to the car, blended the fender perfectly... I hate anyone touching my vehicles, but if something happened to my Camaro, I would very likely take it to Stroyer Brothers in Escondido, CA... These guys did solid work on my wife's Sonata...

Yeah if that was the case. I was parked and a kid flew out of a driveway and I barely had my door open and he ripped the door all the way forward buckling the front fender and everything!
