I bought a mount that can come off the mirror housing, but i did not use it. I prefer the positioning in my photo (off the glass) because it's much further out of my driving vision, still readily accessible, and doesn't conflict with the visor.

Advanced apology for the oblivious question and comment: "Is radar still commonly used? I thought its use was displaced by laser. ."

Laser is still pretty expensive to purchase and keep calibrated. Not every municipality uses it. Many still use radar. Or, a municipality may have one or two laser guns and the rest of their patrol cars quipped with radar systems.

A new, properly calibrated and certified laser gun is about $10,000. So municipalities have to justify their budget compared to about $3500 for a complete radar system installed into a patrol car.

Installed the Uniden R7 with blendmount almost 3 years ago and still works amazingly. Did a quick install/overview video on it:

Instant on radar is a thing and although constant on radar is more commonly used, I've been hit with instant on radar several times since I bought my Radenso Pro M detector around 5 years ago. If the road is not busy and/or you're the only one speeding within a few miles, your radar detector is not going to save you from getting a ticket from instant on radar. Thankfully I wasn't speeding badly when I was hit with instant on so I didn't personally get pulled over. Most recently last year I was already coasting to slow down as I crested a hill on the highway and hit the brakes when I saw the white SUV on the shoulder ahead and I got the instant on Ka band alert from my detector within a second of seeing the police SUV with no advanced warning because he didn't turn his radar gun on for anyone within a few miles ahead of me.

You can reduce the chances of getting caught by instant on radar by slowing to the speed limit (or near it) before you crest hills, and by following behind another speeder (if you can find one) leaving plenty of space in between.

Also running Waze and/or Google Maps is a very good idea to supplement your radar detector. Some radar detector brands have smartphone apps you can run too in order to get crowdsourced alerts before you pass locations where police have used radar recently.

At night you sometimes can't see a police car running instant on radar sitting on the side of the road until after you've been hit because it is dark...I've had that experience once on I-10E driving towards Houston; thankfully I wasn't speeding enough to get pulled over at the time.

Uniden? Escort?

Thanks
Also I just noticed you're located in New York. Be aware that you should put your radar detector in the trunk before driving in Virginia and Washington D.C. where radar detectors are illegal. Cops in those states can pull you over just for having a radar detector inside the passenger area and they can take it from you without the obligation to give it back.

I've driven in Texas and most States in the eastern half of the US with my radar detector. In my experience of about 5 years of driving totaling probably around 30k miles (mostly on trips), police are usually running Ka band, sometimes K band (but road construction light up customizable disay signs and "your speed is" signs and certain Mazda blindspot monitors and automatic doors of businesses [only in parking lots and roads with stores very near to them] are more common on K band and all false alerts). I've only gotten 1 laser alert ever and I think it was false because I couldn't find a police car that it would have come from and I didn't get pulled over (but I was only going a few mph over the speed limit).

Your experience might be a lot different depending on where you drive. Some areas do use laser but I don't think it is common compared to radar.

I don't like laser, nor do I condone spending my tax dollars on such equipment. Radar is very nice and useful.

Good point. I'm glad I never drive in those states!
