Do not need a separate unlock credit for FSCM on 2016. Only ‘17-up.

It takes 3 credits to license all controllers (ECM, TCM, FSCM) on a 2016. Imo ALL A8's should be tuned even if your car is stock. The factory calibration is a good part of the reason why there is so much hate for them.

I still need to make this happen. I purposely bought an HP Tuners unlocked TCM from here so I could keep my factory TCM in please if I ever decided to go back to stock a sell. Some of the reading I have done recently now has me concerned this TCM will not work and the process doesnt work like that??? I hope I am wrong. The seller pulled it from his 2017 SS (like mine) and put the OEM tune back on it.

I have wondered the same thing, I could try putting my stock TCM back in to see what happens, but I know the TCM, and most other modules in the GM Global A, require a environment ID to be learned, but I would think it would be a permanent process that wouldn't change so it would seem you can just swap your old one back in.

I also don't know if HP Tuners, when they unlock the 2017+ TCM's, if they are actually programming in your correct learned solenoid flow values based on your VIN. I am thinking they don't. I am trying to remember but when I did mine I think I did get the code that the learned values weren't present and I think I turned that DCT off.

I have had the famous 8L90 issues that have got worse with 100k+ miles. The hot 1-2 shift flare at low throttle is probably the most pronounced. Followed by the very unnecessarily hard 3-4 shift at mid throttle. I have also been noticing a new one where going from neutral/reverse to drive starts taking twice as long and then bumps into gear way harder than a normal garage shift.

I have the very controversial opinion that apart from increasing the shift speeds and RPM for the bigger cam, there is nothing else I see to really do in the TCM, and its mostly because nothing else has any effect, at least in my specific operating system and calibration. HP Tuners defines a lot of tables and switches, but I haven't found any of them to work or have any effect. To me its 99% in getting the airflow models correct for when you have a cam, and then getting virtual torque corrected as well which will then allow the TCM to control torque through the ECM like it was stock.

I haven't really messed with it in a while so maybe things have changed and HP Tuners has fixed and updated some things. They do like to just populate the tune file with buttons and tables like I said, but they seem to be good at looking into things more when you put in a support ticket and describe something that is not working or has no effect, sometimes they will address the issue and fix it in the next beta release.
