I can weight my stock blower in the morning and if I make it to the shop tomorrow I can weight a 2650. I will say the maggy is heavy!

I realize it's a street car, but I have a ZLE and even if it hypothetically never hit the track, it's an important conversation (in my mind) when you're evaluating the potential benefits vs. additional front bias for a car designed for a road course.

Honestly if the weight difference is only 20 lbs you can shave that down closer to the stock weight by doing something as simple as changing out to some BMR MM0010 engine mounts.

What I'm saying is the suspension and tires will not sag more over a simple 20 lbs.

It sounds like it may be somewhere in the vicinity of forty pounds. I suppose between the rotors, the larger bricks as well as the overall width of the blower housing may account for the roughly forty pounds. That’s quite a bit more than I expected. Thank you for the info. thus far, I really appreciate it.

No, 20 lbs shouldn't really affect it that much, obviously 20 lbs on the rear would be better, but the cooling of the 2650 over the 1740 will be worth the weight in my opinion.

I swear the weight on my complete CARB kit was in the order of about 120 lbs, off one of the shipping labels... It was two boxes.

I'm not sure how helpful this is, either, but my front ride height is about 27.5", which, if it is to believed, maybe .5-.75" lower than stock. I'm only running an aftermarket stab bar in the front, and everything else is completely stock - including alignment settings. I AM running a larger HE, though, too, which should hold a little more water, and is A LOT thicker than OEM.

I never got around to weighing them, but I'd say the 2650 might have another 20-lbs on top of the 1740. The casting is significantly different between the two, with the 1740 having what looks like a LOT denser look; the 2650 looks more porous.

You can drop 6-7 pounds off the magnuson 2650 by running a aftermarket lid. The magnuson lid weighs close to 13 pounds and the DSX lid weighs 5-6.

Now we’re getting somewhere. A weight reduction at the highest point on the blower and far better looking (IMHO) than the Maggie. I prefer something as close to stock all the way around. A stock air filter housing and throttle body would be the perfect camouflage for me.

Thank you very much, your observation regarding density is interesting. I’m guessing the the quality of the OEM casting may be higher, possibly a pressurized casting to eliminate porosity. It seems you also have port injection which also adds a few lbs.
Loving all the observations!

The color and unmachined surfaces are really different. The 1740 was surprisingly heavy, too. BUT - I'm no expert, and didn't remember to weigh either the last time I had the 2650 off, so... I bet you're right though. I forgot to mention the THPSI billet lid, too, which drops a tiny bit of weight. It probably makes up for anything his PI system adds.

Wait, did you replace the ported blower? I thought you had a 2650 on the Z06 and ported stock on the ZL1?

Yes he replaced the blower. His heads lifted and while he was replacing the head gaskets he did the Maggie with it all at the same time.

Too much fun for the stock gaskets/hardware to handle, I guess. He made a good call on throwing the 2650 on there. I mean, while you have it off...

Personally, I think there was a hardware defect somewhere, compression was higher than stock and so that warrants an eyebrow raise in and of itself because higher static compression coupled with higher boost pressures over stock nets much higher dynamic compression ratios, or if the engine was built then it was installer error and that's why the failure occurred.

I can only speculate given the amount of info given, but I'm also not going to ask nor say "THIS right here is why it failed, and this is exactly why." Lol.
