Also, depending on the year of your car you have to pay attention to the what the internal thermal bypass valve is set at
Note: This vehicle is equipped with an internal thermal bypass valve, located inside the valve body, 2022 service bulletin “the transmission fluid level should be checked only after the TFT has reached or exceeded an operating temperature of 70°C (158F). Once the TFT has reached or exceeded 70°C (158°F), then you can check the fluid level.” Last edited by CalgaryZL1; 07-17-2023 at 08:14 PM. |

The difference in volume that I removed from the low temp procedure (173*) to the higher temp procedure (207*) was exactly 1 cup of fluid.

1 cup = .25 quarts. Online calculators show approx .2 quarts using thermal expansion of oil so that is pretty close. I would think ULV would be slightly less. You used the earlier high temp procedure to fill yours?

I did the low temp procedure and had a few odd trans events during my last track day in an extended session (elevated temps). Other sessions were ok. I have a track day on Wednesday with the higher temp procedure.

After the issues, I brought it into the dealer, which is where I found out about the new, lower drain and fill temp / fluid fill check. A TAC case was opened with GM engineers for the problem.

Now that I have quickjacks and can service it myself, that’s the plan

I may be out of touch with reality, but this requirement to keep a fluid within a certain narrow, non-room achievable temperature range for replacement feels very odd in the 21st century.

The replacement procedure is absurd. For essentially a track car, it’s even crazier to me there isn’t a built in drain plug.

Does the desired total amount of trans fluid vary depending on the use of the car? No way, because this is completely unpredictable; however, if it's the same quantity for every unit, the replacement procedure should also be the same. I must be missing something obvious (or sinister, heh).

That's pretty cool. Did you do it yourself or have a machine shop do it? I searched, but there doesn't appear to be an aftermarket pan for the Camaro with 10L80 tranny. Ridiculous that Chevy didn't put a drain plug on it considering many track the car and will be doing frequent fluid changes.

Yikes, VW has the same system and I had to do it 3 times until I got it right.
