Comparing a COPO Camaro to a Demon 170 is not the same, a COPO Camaro would be compared to a Dodge Challenger Drag Pack.

Very few will be able to get their hands on one so it's mainly a conversation piece. It's not going to be a mass-produced model like the redeye. I believe they are allowing the previous Demon owners the option to upgrade first then allocations trickle down the line. Be prepared to pay 100k over msrp to get one if you are lucky.

I'm amazed and impressed that Dodge has released a 1,025 hp vehicle running on E85 that meets emissions and has a factory warranty. Also, happy to see it still makes 900 hp on pump gas. Sheesh. And kudos to Dodge for keeping msrp at around $100k, even though they could have easily sold all 3k of them for a lot more.

Yep, and this is part of the reason why Dodge has such strong brand loyalty and sales today.

Apparently, NHRA has already banned it unless it has rollbar and chute. I'm guessing everyone they build will have those two options.

They did that with the original Demon too. Dodge loved it, promoted it and used it as a marketing tool.

Where did you hear this? The Model S Plaid doesn't have a rollbar and it runs 9.2 in the 1/4, it's not banned, it also runs 152mph in the 1/4 and doesn't have a chute but I have heard of a few tracks have cracked down on some Model S Plaid owners about the chute. Here's the thing though about the Demon 170, Dodge's posted 8.9 ET will be almost unattainable by the vast majority of Demon 170 owners, just like the original Demon's time of 9.6 was unattainable by Demon owners for almost 2 years after it was released and only a VERY few have done it and arguably not even 100% stock. That being said, I think most Demon 170 owners will be able to run low 9's consistently at or near 150mph so a chute might be required at some tracks but I doubt most owners will have to worry about a rollbar since 8.9 is going to be nearly impossible in stock trim. If the Demon 170 owners choose to modify them, then they may very well need a rollbar and chute.

https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...uarter%20miles.

A Dodge special-edition vehicle like none other, the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 is the quickest vehicle ever produced in the brand's 100-plus-year history. The Challenger SRT Demon 170 is the first factory production car to run the quarter mile under 9 seconds with a National Hot Rod Association (NHRA)-certified 8.91-second ET at 151.17 mph. On the drag strip, the Challenger SRT Demon 170 receives an NHRA violation letter for running a sub-nine-second quarter-mile without a safety cage or parachute, following in the footsteps of the original Demon, which was also banned from NHRA quarter miles.

Since it's a dedicated eight-second drag race car, I just assumed it came with a rollbar or cage.

Yes you are correct.

It runs less than 9.0 in the 1/4 which is the new NHRA limit.
Roll cage and parachute required.

Maybe Dodge feels that it's also a 60 to 130 car

Dodge has been the king of high horsepower specialty vehicles for years that typically cater to the 1/4 mile. Kudos to them for going way above and beyond with these ICE sendoff cars!

While the ZL1 is a moonshot in its own right, I still hold out a bit of hope that GM will give it something extra in its last year. I'd even settle for carbon ceramic brakes!

Which almost no one will run so likely won't be required for 99.5% of people that own them unless they mod them. It took 2 years for anyone to match the original Demon 9.65 official time and arguably not even 100% stock depending on your definition. Dodge is quite clever at marketing their vehicles which includes performance times that most people can't match. Chevy and Ford on the other hand offer up more realistic performance times that many people can match or even exceed. Just a different philosophy but it works for Dodge, they are the king of marketing.

Original Demon Banned by NHRA
Demon 170 Banned by NHRA

Surely Dodge knew what they were doing posting an official time under 9.0

I wasn't really comparing the Demon to a COPO that way. I was just stating that the COPO engine is more solid from the get go vs Dodge destroying a number of engines before getting it right. It's not like running E85 is a new thing.

I can see the new Z06 having some blown engines since that was a completely new engine compared to what GM is used to building. Much like how the GT350 engine is a ticking time bomb.
