I assumed since there was no cel code the dealer wouldn’t help with much. Truthfully all my times going to dealer has been like that. Just figured id ask around first since my car is fine and no codes on dash. But you’re right if I’m worried I should just go in I guess

I don't get a gasoline odor from oil when I do a change. Slight "burnt" smell is totally different, and basically expected.
we are talking about (maybe) a leaking injector here, or something that would let gas get into the oil. In my experience, this type of problem will show up as a gas odor even when the oil is cold. I would check the dipstick when car is cold and smear the oil around on your fingers or a paper towel. You are specifically looking for a gasoline smell. If you are not really sure or have to stick the dipstick halfway up your nose to smell anything, chances are you have NO problem. |

Right on the money Ctriz, you shouldnt smell any gas in the oil.
17500 miles on my 2021 LT1, gets a workout regularly and sees WOT redline automatic shifts. Am at 3000 miles on my current oil change, and the oil smells like oil. before I get comments on the radiator and the gas cans, the electric radiator has a 4 ft 220 cord that I plug into my 220 wall plug, It is never plugged in, only when I want some heat and the gas cans go out side. If you have a bad over-fueling problem you will see the level on the dipstick go up. Had this happen years ago on a British MGB.

First off, I smell my dipstick at every opportunity but it's getting more difficult as I get older (loss of flexibility). But IMHO you will always have some gas contamination in used oil and if you don't smell it, have someone else take a whiff cuz maybe there's an issue with your snout.
As long as you don't have an excess of oil/fluid when you drain (10 quarts in and not greater than 10 quarts out), it is unlikely you have any issue with excess fueling. Short trips will absolutely result in greater amounts of gas contamination. I always try to make any excursion at least 10 miles long. You have to get it hot enuff to burn off the gas and water (a normal byproduct of combustion). My Grandmother gave me her '66 Buick when I was a young lad (she got too old to operate it anymore) and I had to drive it 200 miles back home. Of course I checked tire pressure and oil level before leaving, but after 200 hard miles (18 y.o. driver with a 2 speed automatic. It would hold 1st gear up to 70mph!). I checked again and half the oil was gone. |

Depends on the engine. My 2018 kia optima 2.4 oil always smells like fuel but no dipstick rise. I wouldnt be conerned if you daily drive the car and take short trips without getting the engine to full operating temperature. Also if you start the car to move it into position to change the oil, this could be the cause. The engine oil life indicator takes all this into account. As others have said unless the dipstick begins to rise significantly, I would not be concerned. Blackstone labs doesn't directly measure the fuel, they estimate it based on viscosity. If you want actual fuel, you need to find another lab.

Byproduct of DI. All of my DI cars have a slight gasoline smell present when doing oil changes, Camaro included.
